'Avatar' Makes 'Titanic' Look Like a Picnic
September 09, 2008 12:09:23Hypening up the excitement for his latest feature film project "Avatar", director James Cameron talked about what he thinks of the sci-fi thriller movie by comparing it to his previous prominent work, "Titanic". During an interview in Los Angeles, he revealed as quoted by Andrea Baillie of The Canadian Press, "It makes Titanic look like a picnic."
Working on the film using the blending of live-action photography and new virtual photorealistic production techniques, Cameron further confessed, "It's simultaneously the most vexing and the most rewarding type of production that I've done yet." On the new filming techniques, he commented, "It's this form of pure creation where...if you want to move a tree or a mountain or the sky or change the time of day, you have complete control over the elements and the production design."

With that status being upheld, he comes out to discuss about his visionary on the highly anticipated 3-D sci-fi epic.
Confessing to the Hollywood Reporter that it is the most challenging movie he has ever made, the "Titanic" helmer stated that his goal with this project is to present a movie that is about CG animation and live action. During the filming in New Zealand, Cameron has taken the live-action part using the Fusion 3-D camera system. Now, he focuses on the CG part using a new performance capture production workflow.

James Cameron's Avatar Release Date Shifted
December 12, 2007 04:12:47Making a change of plan on its big-budgeted project "Avatar", 20th Century Fox has announced that it has pushed back the release date of the movie from May 22, 2009 to December 19, 2009.
Being so, the James Cameron-directed flick will now open on the same weekend as his "Titanic" did in 1997. Moreover, the shifted date consequently also gives the filmmaker more time to work on the effects and much more time for additional theaters to install 3-D screens both in the U.S. and aboard.

The Los Angeles native reportedly is billed to play a passive-aggressive character named Selfridge, who is also the supervisor of Hell's Gate, the colony station on planet Pandora. Sam Worthington has already been cast as the lead character Jake Sully, a paralyzed former marine undergoing an experiment to exist as an avatar, another version of himself.

A $190 million hybrid of live action and animation produced under 20th Century Fox, pic centers on a wounded ex-marine assigned to settle and exploit an exotic planet rich in bio-diversity who eventually crosses over to lead the indigenous race in a battle for survival. Lang is informed to play a seasoned Marine Corps colonel who travels to the planet to take charge of its troops while Rodriguez will portray an ex-Marine pilot.

The Oscar-winning director happily confirmed that Wes Studi, Sigourney Weaver, Peter Mensah, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, and Laz Alonso have all been included in the lineup with Weaver playing a character named Grace. Already submitted to the list were Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana who portray Jake Sully and Neytiri, respectively.

"Avatar" Gets on the Move in April 2007

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the renowned filmmaker, who has spent a decade to develop the story, is set to get the project into production in April this year. August 03, 2006 04:08:15James Cameron's much-anticipated and innovative new motion picture "Avatar" will get a special treatment from Joe Letteri and Weta Digital as both parties have signed on to create visual effects, creatures and digital environments for the action sci-fi thriller flick.
"Weta has proven themselves a leader in visionary effects, especially in the area of performance capture based character animation, which is a big part of my new film," says Cameron who serves as either writer or director for the film. That's one of the reasons why Joe Letteri and Weta Digital being signed on.
