'Vegas' and 'Elementary' Get Full Season Orders by CBS

'Delivering big audiences and winning performances in important time periods,' the crime drama series and the period drama show have been given back-nine orders.

CBS has handed out the first full season orders of 2012 fall to two of its freshmen. After canceling the low-rated "Made in Jersey", the network takes a different route for "Vegas" and "Elementary" by picking up the back-nine episodes of both shows.

" 'Vegas' and 'Elementary' have opened strong, delivering big audiences and winning performances in important time periods," says Nina Tassler, president of CBS Entertainment. "Each of the shows has rich characters, big stars and a unique visual style that have stood out in the crowd, helping make two of our strongest nights even stronger."

Opening to nearly 15 million viewers, period drama "Vegas" has shown a steady performance by averaging 14.94 million viewers and a 2.7 rating in adults 18-49. The show centers on a clash between Dennis Quaid's Ralph Lamb, a Las Vegas Sheriff, and Michael Chiklis' Vincent Savino, a ruthless Chicago gangster.

As for "Elementary", the modern-day adaptation of Sherlock Holmes detective stories delivers stronger rating in the coveted demo. It has averaged 14.3 million viewers and a 3.5 rating in adults 18-49. The crime drama series stars Jonny Lee Miller as Holmes and Lucy Liu as female Watson.
