The 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' star shares profound wisdom from the 'Saturday Night Live' creator/producer on the devastating consequences of addiction and the importance of seeking recovery.

AceShowbiz - In a candid interview on David Letterman's Netflix show, "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction", John Mulaney disclosed a deeply meaningful conversation with "Saturday Night Live" producer Lorne Michaels about sobriety and addiction.

Mulaney recalled how Michaels invoked the tragic loss of John Belushi, who died in 1982 at the age of 33 due to drug addiction. Michaels lamented, "I knew John Belushi for seven years. I've been talking about him for 48 years, because that's the shrapnel that happens when someone goes down like that."

Belushi's death from a cocaine and heroin overdose underscored Michaels's point that addiction is not a choice but a devastating disease. He emphasized that individuals struggling with addiction do not intentionally plan to die from it.

Mulaney himself entered rehab in December 2020. He revealed that he attempted to leave early after only four days, but a doctor's somber statement halted his departure. "He didn't argue or anything. He just went, 'John. We both know how this movie ends,' " the comedian recalled.

Mulaney's words serve as a stark reminder that addiction can have tragic consequences. As Michaels wisely observed, the lives lost to addiction are a sobering testament to the importance of seeking help and embracing recovery.
