'Elementary' Finds Sherlock's Lover in 'Game of Thrones' Actress

"Game of Thrones" star Natalie Dormer has landed a pivotal role on CBS' "Elementary". The British actress is cast as Irene Adler, Sherlock Holmes' (Jonny Lee Miller) first and only love in London. Her death led the eccentric detective to develop a drug addiction.

"We're moving to the next chapter in our show - and in some ways, to a previous chapter in Holmes' story," says executive producer Rob Doherty. "Irene Adler is perhaps the most pivotal relationship in Sherlock's life, and I can't think of an actress better suited to the challenge than Natalie."

Holmes Gets Slapped in New 'Elementary' Promo

With his quirky manner, it's not surprising that Holmes lands in troubles. A new "Elementary" promo, which is released less than two weeks before the show premieres on CBS, shares some never-before-seen scenes including the one which sees the detective gets slapped in the face by a woman.

The video also features Holmes who correctly guesses that Watson will rule a case as a robbery homicide, but he will prove that she's wrong. In another scene, Watson is determined to accompany Holmes who declares he won't be sleeping. The former surgeon shows a trick to keep herself awake, and the detective soon follows her move.

Benedict Cumberbatch Denies Dissing Jonny Lee Miller for Taking 'Elementary' Role

Benedict Cumberbatch has clarified his recent comment on CBS' modern-day adaptation of Sherlock Holmes' story, "Elementary". After he's quoted as saying that he's "a bit cynical" about why producers chose to cast Jonny Lee Miller, the title character depicter on BBC's "Sherlock" claims he was misquoted.

"I am both bemused and upset at this misquote. I never said that Johnny took the job for the paycheck nor did I ask him not to do it," he says in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. "What I said is I would have preferred not to be in the situation where we will again be compared because we are friends. I know for a fact his motivations were to do with the quality of the script and the challenges of this exceptional role."

Extended Trailers of CBS' New Shows: 'Elementary', 'Vegas' and More

CBS has released an extended look for each of its new fall series. "Elementary", which is dubbed a modern take on Sherlock Holmes' cases, has Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu starring as detective Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Joan Watson respectively, who team up to crack the NYPD's most impossible cases. It will air at 10 P.M. on Thursdays.

A period drama, "Vegas" is set in the 1960s and based on the true story of Ralph Lamb (Dennis Quaid), a fourth-generation rancher who is tasked with bringing order to Las Vegas when a gambling and entertainment mecca emerge from the tumbleweeds. It will air every Tuesday at 10 P.M..
