Although Sage Stallone's lawyer repeatedly denied the late actor/director was depressed before his death, the rumor didn't die down. It stayed persistent and grew stronger when a family member, Edd Filiti, accused Sylvester Stallone of leaving Sage in devastation after cutting the 36-year-old filmmaker out of his life.
Filiti, who is Sage's cousin, ripped Sylvester and his wife Jennifer Flavin on a Facebook message addressed to the former supermodel. The 18-year-old son of Sly's half-sister Toni Ann wrote, "I'm glad your stepmother workload has lessened, one less member of the family to keep away, one less distraction."
He continued his story, "Your Facebook publicist thanked everyone for wishing my uncle a happy birthday, but neither you or he could return a phone call, which is all he wanted, his father. I know you don't care what happened, but you'll care when your (sic) squirming under the burning magnifying glass of public opinion."
Filiti added, "Jennifer Flavin, you won. Your tore this family apart and got your trophy, Congrats! Like you told my family, 'I'm Sly's family now, he doesn't need you anymore.' Let's see how much he needs you after this." The teen also said, "It's a good thing you have all that makeup to hide your real face. You people make me f***in sick."
The angry message has been deleted, but Celebuzz got a snapshot of it. A source also told the publication that "Sage was not allowed in his father's home and he admitted to other family members of his devastation that he'd seemingly been cut out of his father's life." His estranged relationship with his father "crushed" him because he "idolized his father."
Sage was found dead in his Los Angeles Home on Friday, July 13. Police believe that there is no foul play, but the cause of his death is still unclear pending toxicology tests by the Coroner Office. His case reportedly has been transferred to LAPD Robbery Homicide department that usually handles high-profile cases.
There are a lot of speculations surrounding Sage's death, including stories that he might overdose or commit suicide. In response to those rumors, Sly issued a new statement that begged media to put an end to "speculation and questionable" about his son's passing. "Because when a parent loses a child there is no greater pain," the actor said.
"Therefore I am imploring people to respect my wonderfully talented son's memory and feel compassion for his loving mother Sasha, because this agonizing loss will be felt for the rest of our lives. Sage was our first child and the center of our universe and I am humbly begging for all to have my son's memory and soul left in peace."
