Standing up for Michael Phelps, who has been forced to issue a public apology after a picture of him smoking marijuana hit the web over the weekend, Ashton Kutcher wrote Twitter message on Monday, February 2, giving the swimmer some support. "I wish the media would kill this Phelps story," so the actor wrote his defense for the record-breaking Olympian swimmer.

"God forbid he hit a bong. Go ask your 20 year old kid what they did last weekend," he wrote further. "I'm not saying it was a smart move. But he doesn't need to be publicly outed for it. Who ever put the pic out is an a**!"

"He's a good kid. Btw he could be a real douche but he's not. Maybe the media can quit dragging his d*** in the dirt," Ashton added. "I don't smoke and haven't in quite some time. But I'm not immune to a lapse in good judgement (sic) from time to time."

On Sunday, February 2, Michael Phelps issued an apologetic statement to the Associated Press concerning a picture of him smoking marijuana which was made public by News of the World on late Saturday, January 31. "I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment," so he stated. "I'm 23 years old and despite the successes I've had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again."

We declare that our rights as American and human beings be evaluated. We hold the truths of liberty, equality, and general love to a greater height so we may achieve a greater high. We beilieve that the oppression against our people, for reasons we know not, must come to end if we are to come together as one nation, under god and his bong, to unite under the common joy of a good smoke and become a great race of free people against a common enemy: the established authority. We shall over throw the oppressive rules of our government so as to gain our weed. Unite, come forth under one banner and throw off the joke of authority. No more oppression no more hate. Only peace, joy ,and pot.

I think Michael Phelps would make an excellent poster boy for the decriminalization of marijuana nation wide.

90% of basketball/football players bun it down in the off season, and they get booked all the time, league doesnt give a fuck, they just give a pat on the bum, and say you cant smoke for 30 days before you change teams. Trades wernt completed this season because some players failed the urine test (bunning it down daily) all what happened is they go back to their old team, no consequences. haha. i bun it down daily and im amazing.

I wish more people who do tremendous things AND enjoy marijuana would be willing to stand up beside Michael Phelps. This irrational fear by many American citizens of the social use of marijuana will only end when rational people are finally willing to step forward and admit to smoking and what do you know?? They are still just your everyday, normal person! I just went to a local Grocery Outlet - a store that buys up products that other stores no longer sell, and what did I find? A GOLDMINE!!! Michael Phelps on the cover of the Corn Flakes cereal box. After my purchase of a box for every person I know who have not forsaken against our HERO, I will no longer support the General Mills corporation and am boycotting their product line entirely! Come on, People, be outraged Ė letís turn this one around the way it ought to read! How can smoking marijuana be a bad thing if someone can do what Mr. Phelps was able to do at the Olympics???

It's a weed people, a weed. He should not have apologized, he should say it is nobodies business what he inhales but his own, and everybody should stop being such a bunch of damn tight asses. Most have smoked and will smoke again. I am sick of the self righteousness of this country. I don't smoke weed, but if I did, anybody who disagrees with it can blow me. Straight up!

ahaha,Yeah, no doubt Mr. Phelps should not give a shit, and he prob doesnt.this guys up in the world and knows what he's doin, not a "stoner" either. amazing athlete smoked some of that deadly, life ruining, dangerous illicit substance... marijuana :O Maybey this tells us something. NOONE GIVES A FLYIN FUCK exept people trying to make a story out of it and the ignorant thick headed people supporting its dramatization rather then normalization. definetly grabs my attention. not in a bad way. I feel like i gotta speak up for this guy and im only turning 19, who is to decide weather what he is doing is "wrong". He can smoke this shit every weekend and still be the best he looks to be full of soul, mind and skill and knows that he can still do this as long as his passion for swimming is his primary focus. maybey if he was doin lines of coke and beating his own record drastically while on stimulant drugs. then yeah, god forbid. Lots of people who think they've grown up really need to grow the fuck up and realize that not everyone lives a uniform lifestyle. It's funny, but really pushes my buttons.

Pot isn't a drug they even test for in the olympics, and he should come out and say FUCK OFF to the media. A lot of top athletes smoke weed and still perform great, some are elected governators! The media is using this to cover up the bailout of all the campain contributors or "banks and wall st." Wake the Fuck Up America!!!! Obama is the same shit as all the rest, he just reads a teleprompter better than "W"

"God forbid he hit a bong. Go ask your 20 year old kid what they did last weekend," Exactly. Phelps is only 23 years old and has pressure put on him every single day that most of us will never have in our lifetime. I think this was completely blown out of proportion. Honestly, who cares what a 23 year old did at a party with his buddies? I do not see the media writing about my friends smoking up last weekend, or worse my 16 year old brother and his friends. Just to make things clear, I am 20 years old and I have never smoked marijuana in my life, but I think it is absolutely ridiculous that people make such a big deal about a PERSON (Phelps) doing what PEOPLE (Most) his age (actually of all ages) do.

This is insane. So what? He smoked some weed. Just about everyone I know smokes weed. Phelps is a great athlete! He has 8 gold medals! Stop dragging his name in the mud - This is the medias fault. They set him up to fail - calling him a hero, this perfect angel. He is just a normal guy, like you & me. He happened to hit a pipe to relax with friends at a party, now suddenly the world comes crashing down on him. What the hell is wrong with this country?!? Leave the poor guy alone!

This is so dumb to drag out... the media just wants something else to talk about, the guy won 8 gold medals cut him a break, he admitted it and said sorry! also Ashton's response is the best!!!! Rock on Phelps!

My point is, I don't care if he smokes dope:"Good for him." Let people do what they want to do. However, my only issue is that when some "celebrity" says it is ok, that everybody follows along like lemurs jumping off a cliff. You need to come up with your own opinion not just follow a pack. Smoking dope to me is not a problem, however it is illegal and is only bought "under the radar." If kids look up to him and feel that if he does it, "than I can too," they will be dealing with very shady people that more than likely have nothing to lose. Remember, kids today do not know how to protect themselves.

Really? Ashton Kutcher? He is the voice of reason? Not quite. A guy who is not funny that got stardom by not very intelligent fans that thought his little quips represented his humor? His only stardom to fame was his writers that fed him lines to make him seem funny. Now, we are looking to him for moral advice? WOW!, if this is the case, I probably should ask Carney Wilson about diet tips.

I play College baseball and i smoke everyday and iím still a beast. If he can win 8 gold medals and he chooses to rip a bong who cares. If anything smoking bud would make him worse donít you think???? Giving HIMSELF not his competitors an unfair advantage, but obviously it doesnít trouble the best swimmer, maybe even the most dominant athlete in the world. LEGALIZE IT!!

If you look t the reasoning that led to marijuana being made illegal, it comes down to racism and classism. Pot is no worse than alchohol or tobacco, and should have the same legal status. The real scandal is how we've made criminals out of people who jut want to relax.

Ok the real problem here is not the fact that he got high, its the media portraying him as some perfect angel. Phelps is an amazing athlete and a pretty face but not much more. I agree he could have been more careful in his use but if he decided to get high that doesnt change him as a person. He let down a few people who looked up to him but that was their decision. If you ever watch an interview of him it is clear he is just a jock. It gets me upset that the media blows this so out of porportion. For example, CNN news called the story "A Hero Failed". How does getting high make him any less of a hero. Regardless of his pot use he still brought America fame and honor in multiple olympic games. How we betray someone who dedicated his life to competing for us. In my opinion anybody who thinks Phelps is any less of a hero because of his use is a huge hypocrite. Phelps, you are still an amazing athlete who deserves the respect of america no matter what you choose to do as recreation.

Whoah, it looks like Phelps found a smoking good friend. (1) He's a good kid. (2) Maybe the media can quit dragging his d*** in the dirt. For (1), Phelps should give Kutcher 1 gold medal. For both (1) and (2), Phelps should award Kutcher all 8 gold medals. Kutcher was trying to blow the dirt off his d***.

This should never even make the news. People are getting murdered everyday over real drugs in the streets, and we're worried about arguably the greatest Olympian of all time wants to get high and eat some fast food? F*** you American media.
