Dakota Fanning could be one of the deathly bloodsucking vampires in "New Moon". Breaking out the speculation was E! Online's Marc Malkin who exclusively reported that the co-star of Sean Penn in "I Am Sam" is in negotiations to star in the "Twilight" sequel opposite Robert Pattinson and others.
Reportedly, the soon-to-be 15-year-old actress has been offered the role of Jane, the member of the vampire coven residing in Volterra, Italy, known as the Volturi. "There were no auditions," Malkin quoted a source. "They just offered it to her outright, and now they're in negotiations. They've been going back and forth."
In the casting note, Fanning's possible starring character, Jane, has been described to be a petite blonde with a "Botticelli angel-like face...[and] crimson irises." While physically small than fellow Volturi guards Demetri and Felix, who "are three times the size of her", she is able to make the two of them "terrified of her".
Penned by "Twilight" screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, "New Moon" will have "The Golden Compass" director Chris Weitz serving behind the lens. Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner are among several other original cast members set to reprise their roles. The Summit Entertainment movie is reported to start production in March in the U.S. and Italy for November 20, 2009 release.

Dakota Fanning would be okay, but xxbeatrizxx, i read in my magazine that both Brenda Song and Vanessa Hudgens confirmed that it was just a rumor. If you don't believe me, you can get the J-14 I Was Such A Dork March issue. It says it on a caption.

Umm, Okay first of all Dakota is an great actress but i just dont think she is suited for the roll of jane. 1. Shes to young 2. She DOES not fit the roll & 3. She will ruin the movie!! I personally think that new moon needs actors who are not yet that famous! I mean come on they're planning to hire Vanessa Hudgens! If they do that i refuse to go watch new moon and im a real twihard fan!!!

She is a good actress I love her but Jane is supposed to have dark hair but that is no problem she just needs to dye it. I tried out for the part of Jane. But they didn't want me because I wasn't really experienced and they probably want someone experienced so Dakota is probably the right pick.

I think Dakota Fanning is too young. Did the Volturi vampires make her a vampire at the age of 14. From reading the book she seems much older than that however her age was not specified. I think the actress playing Jane should be much older and dark hair to be more in line with an Italian vampire, sorry Dakota. Dakota is great, but not that great (SORRY). She is to cute and sweet to be playing that role. They should let other people try out for the role instead of just giving to her flat out. I think that is wrong. But I DO NOT think that dakota fanning should be playing a role like this, she is way to young and she can't live up to the goal of what 'JANE' has.

dakota probly will take some or most of the spotlight.that i can definetly say is a problem because even though she has a smaller role many people will be drawn 2 her and it's not fair but life isnt fair. so its kind of wrong and sad at the same time but that still dosent mean she shouldnt play the role it just means that maybe they can consider someone lesser. who knows she can either make or break the movie either way everyone in that movie or most people in that movie did a good job. they should get credit for there hard work and if they get down played that's not cool but it's not really up 2 the directer how the fans react. its up 2 the fans to give credit where credit is due and not go see the movie or something along those lines because a well known actress is palying in it. people who have bigger parts and leading roles and are the main caracters like bella the cullens and jacob and many others got there roles because they deservied it and should recieve the spotlight not some well known actress. even if she does a good job it shouldnt be focused on her since in "new moon" her role is minor not major and should more or less be treated that way!!!!

Dakota is too tall. Jane is small and only like10-12 also Dakota is pretty good at acting cute but boy would she suck being scary! Besides it will take eyes off of characters like Kristen and Roberts characters. They need a new girl like me. I sent in one of my pics cause im an aspiring actress.
I really disagree. Those last two must be stupid because in the book it clearly states that she is younger. She sound older because she is stuck in like a 12 year old bodie for like 100 years. We want unknown actors. Also Jane is described as having brown hair and most people I have talked to and seen reviews online they have pictured her darker.Meaner.I personally think they should have open casting calls. Not in a lot of places but like New York City,Los Angeles, Orlando, Atlanta, Nashville and a few other cities around the country.Maybe even a few in Italy.I honestly think if they change the movie too much and put actors like Vanessa and Dakota in it I will boycott the movie and get a lot of people to do the same.
