Whoopi Goldberg has been confirmed as the new co-host of ABC's popular show "The View."

AceShowbiz - There it is, after days of chatter and speculation, it is confirmed on Wednesday August 1st that Whoopi Goldberg is joining ABC's daytime television talk show "The View," filling in Rosie O'Donnell's seat following her abrupt departure in May.
The show's creator and co-host Barbara Walters announced at the end of Wednesday's broadcast that Oscar-winning actress Goldberg will join the daytime program on September 4th when the show returns from summer hiatus for its 11th season.
"She's brilliant, she's funny, please join us in welcoming Whoopi Goldberg," Walters said, as Goldberg walked onstage. "Can I handle it?" Goldberg asked. "I hope so. I love this show. I love watching it, I love coming on it, I love you guys. It's wonderful."
With her joining "The View," Goldberg thus becoming the second co-host to join the program in less than a year. O'Donnell has been able to increase the show's audience by 17 percent after she joined in September last year to replace Meredith Vieira, who left to co-host NBC's "Today" show.
