Sean Penn Acknowledged by Directors Guild of America

Not being able to score a single award from the 7 nominations it garnered at the 13th Critics' Choice Awards, "Into the Wild" gave out consolation for its director as Sean Penn was named amongst the nominees of the 60th Annual Directors Guild of America awards. On Tuesday, January 8, the actor turned director was nominated for the outstanding directing of a feature film category.

For the top prize, Penn has to be up against favorite winners, the Coen brothers and Paul Thomas Anderson who were nominated for their acclaimed films "No Country for Old Men" and "There Will Be Blood" respectively. He will also have to face stiff competition from the director of "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly", Julian Schnabel, and the helmer of "Michael Clayton", Tony Gilroy.

42nd KCFCC Named There Will Be Blood Best Film

Though the winners of 42nd Annual Loutzenhiser Awards are more varied than the other film critics awards, there is no doubt about the supremacy of "There Will Be Blood" as it was once more hailed as the Best Film by Kansas City Film Critics Circle. On the winners announcement made on Sunday, January 6, 2008, the drama film received 3 awards, including the Best Film prize.

The other two awards were given to its helmer, Paul Thomas Anderson, and its actor, Daniel Day-Lewis. Lewis walked away with Best Actor title, while Anderson brought home The Robert Altman Award for Directing. Unfortunate for Anderson, he had to share the honor with the director of "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly" since they were in tie position.

Bravo TV's 'Make Me a Supermodel' Finalists Unveiled

A new competitive reality show for Bravo TV "Make Me a Supermodel" will be launched on Thursday, January 10, 2008. Arguably, it would be "America's Next Top Model" meets "American Idol" because the control of the show is put in the hands of the public as the viewers have to vote each week to determine who stays and who's out.

The show that starts shooting on January 4 will be hosted by Niki Taylor and Tyson Beckford. In the show, the two hosts will give out inputs to the aspiring supermodels-to-be helped by two actual judges, Jennifer Starr, who is the most prominent print fashion casting director in the country, and Cory Bautista, the youngest Director of any modeling agency. Somehow, the format of the show resembles the Tyra Banks' reality show. However, in the case of "Make Me", the contestants will be consisted of 7 males and 7 females instead of Banks' all-female contestants.

Definitely, Maybe Opens 23rd Santa Barbara International Film Festival

Adam Brooks directed-film "Definitely, Maybe" will open the 23rd Santa Barbara International Film Festival as the film festival announced its lineup and program. According to Monstersandcritics.com, the comedy romantic film starring Ryan Reynolds, Isla Fisher and Abigail Breslin will make its world premiere in the festival that runs from January 24 to February 3.

It was reported that Brooks, Reynolds and Breslin will attend the opening night screening which then followed by a party at Paseo Nuevo in downtown Santa Barbara. Aside from the particular Universal Pictures' film, SBIFF 2008 will also feature 215 movies, including 20 world premieres, 22 U.S. premieres and a varied selection of films representing 49 countries.

Kanye West has revealed a tiny bit of details from his upcoming music video for the track 'Flashing Lights' feat. Dwele. The rapper posted a photo of what appears as one frame from the clip.

West returned to blogging on his official site, KanyeUniverseCity.com on January 2, 2008 since his mother's sudden death in November 2007. And on Tuesday, January 8 he posted a picture that shows a gloomy street where a woman, whose face can't be seen, stood in the middle. Underneath the pic West informed that he had just been to Denmark "sitting with the director".

Rapper-Actor Ice Cube Launched a New Online TV-Style Network

First established himself as a rapper before then tried his hand at acting, Ice Cube is now turning Internet entrepreneur. The star, who's regarded as one of the greatest hip hop artists, and his partner DJ Pooh, who's a record producer and screenwriter, are teaming up to launch a new online TV-style network.

The project, named UVNTV which stands for U View Network Television, is still in the work and so far features a dozen channels including Snoop Dogg's "Snoopadelic", and ones run by The Source and Vibe Magazines.

Reports said that it was one of the music videos that became the group's favorite to shoot. It includes "13 costume changes, 2 dogs, a baby and pink wigs" and is inspired by Vogue magazine.

Though the awards ceremony of the 34th annual People's Choice Awards was using different format this year, the blockbuster threequel "Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End" still has a lot to celebrate. The action adventure film nabbed two awards at the event aired on CBS on Tuesday, January 8.

The Walt Disney Pictures' film produced by Jerry Bruckheimer nailed the Favorite Movie prize as well as the Favorite Threequel. Additionally, two of its cast members, Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley, also scored Favorite Male Movie Star and Favorite Female Action Star respectively.

Rapper Prodigy Granted a One Month Adjournment Following Sudden Hospitalization

Was initially scheduled to start serving his time in prison for gun possession charge by Tuesday, January 9, rapper Prodigy fortunately has his jail bid postponed due to his hospitalization Monday, January 7.

A publicist for the one-half of the hip-hop duo Mobb Deep has confirmed to Sixshot.com that Prodigy "has thirty more days on the street" before he's set to turn himself into New York State authorities to begin his three and a half year prison term.

Timberlake's contribution on the song 'Give It to Me' was also recognized for it won 'Hip-Hop Song' category, sharing it with the owner Timbaland and another collaborator, Nelly Furtado. If he won the 'Male' favorite, Gwen Stefani claimed the 'Female' counterpart while country band Rascal Flatts took the 'Group'.

Criticized for being historically inaccurate, "The Great Debaters" was hailed as the top leader at the 39th NAACP Image Awards nominations. The drama film got a staggering 8 nominations, including Outstanding Motion Picture, in the nominees announcement made on Tuesday, January 8.

The film that is based on the real-life victories of a black debating team in the 1930s also brought about two nods for its actor and director, Denzel Washington. The Academy Award-winning actor was nominated for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture as well as Outstanding Directing in a Motion Picture.

The 39th National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards unveils its nominees in recording category that show a domination by Kanye West and Mary J. Blige. Both artists are up for four nods which three of them are in the same category.

Categories where West and Blige will compete with each other are 'Best Album', 'Best Song' and 'Music Video'. The 39th Annual NAACP Image Awards Leading Nominees in TV Categories

Nominations were announced Tuesday, January 8 for the 39th Annual National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards. With "The Great Debaters" led the way with eight nominations on the Motion Picture Categories, "Everybody Hates Chris" and "Girlfriends" were both the leading nominees in TV Categories, picked up seven nominations each.

Sienna Miller Nominated for BAFTA's Rising Star Award

On Tuesday, January 8, at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts' London headquarter, Sienna Miller was announced to be the nominee of 2008 BAFTA's Orange Rising Star Award. In the nominees announcement made by the 2007 winner, Eva Green, the name of the 26-year-old British actress was read out among the five nominees.

The 65th Golden Globes' Gala Cancelled

Causing delay on many new film projects, the WGA's strike has claimed another victim as the 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards' gala has been canceled and reduced only to a press conference. The good news are that the announcement of the winners will still be held at The Beverly Hilton on the original date, January 13, and is covered by NBC News beginning at 6:00 P.M. PST.

In announcing the cancellation, the President of The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Jorge Camara, expressed the disappointment stating, "We are all very disappointed that our traditional awards ceremony will not take place this year and that millions of viewers worldwide will be deprived of seeing many of their favorite stars celebrating 2007's outstanding achievements in motion pictures and television." Camara then added, "We take some comfort, however, in knowing that this year's Golden Globe Award recipients will be announced on the date originally scheduled."

In an article on the German newspaper to be published on Wednesday, January 9, Schlink revealed that Winslet would play a mysterious older woman who seduces a young man in post-World War II Germany. The author then commented about the role stating, "Kate Winslet fits the role wonderfully."

Following a sneak peak of Janet Jackson's highly-anticipated video clip for 'Feedback', the full length has been premiered on BET and Yahoo! Music yesterday (January 8).

The clip is the first from her upcoming album 'Discipline' which will be dropped February 26 through Island Def Jam. The song itself is a Rodney Jerkins-produced which is made the first single pulled from the tenth studio album.
