Alfre Woodard Joining 'Desperate Housewives' Cast

Emmy-winning star Alfre Woodard is reported joining the cast of ABC's hit comedy "Desperate Housewives" and will join the show for the 2005-2006 season, playing a woman who moves into the neighborhood with her son. According to Daily Variety report on Tuesday, there had been speculation an African-American family would move into the cul-de-sac, but ABC and Touchstone, which produces the show, refused to reveal anything about Woodard's character.

As an extra news, Woodard has also signed to co-star with Antonio Banderas in the upcoming New Line feature "Take the Lead," in which the actor plays a former professional dancer who volunteers to teach dance in New York's public schools.

Garland's 'Wizard' Dress to be Auctioned

The dress worn by Judy Garland in the 1939 iconic film "Wizard of Oz," where she played Dorothy Gale, is set to be auctioned on April 26, 2005, in London, for financial support. The blue and white gingham dress is on display at Bonhams and Butterfields, and is estimated from $50,000 to $70,000.

The dress, which was custom made for Garland who was 17 in 1939, has a 27-inch waist and Garland's name on an inside hem label. Along with the dress, John Lennon's handwritten lyrics for "Revolution," and a Mick Jagger jacket will also be displayed at Bonhams in San Francisco in advance of the auction of rock, pop and film memorabilia.

Billy Joel Checks Out of Alcohol Rehab Center

Singer Billy Joel has left the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, California, early Sunday morning, after entering the facility for treatment of alcohol abuse in March 2005. He's now back at his Long Island home with his wife, Kate Lee.

Foxy Pleaded not Guilty to August 2004 Assault

Rapper Foxy Brown has been pleaded not guilty to assault over the August 29, 2004, incident, for which she was accused to using her cell phone and fist to attack the manicurists. To be more specific, the 25-year-old rapper was charged by her prosecutors to kick and hit a manager, Sun Ji Song, causing "bruising and swelling to the face, as well as substantial pain."

Moreover, the prosecutors claimed that the salon's employees ran out to Foxx's car and stood in front of it to block her, at which point the rapper slugged one of the workers with a cell phone. Due to the testimony, Foxx was charged with misdemeanor assault and attempted assault. No matter what she's now freed of the charges and commenting on it she said Monday outside the courtroom that she had asked for a manicure and a pedicure just as the salon in the Chelsea neighborhood was about to close.

Demi will be the Face of Versace

Actress Demi Moore has been indicated to be the Material Girl's successor as the face of Versace. The advertisement reportedly will be shot by photographer Mario Testino, and model Gabriel Aubry will serve as Moore's male counterpart in the pictures. There yet any explanation on what Moore's main squeeze, so we'll see then.

Roberts Joins a Star-Studded Benefit

For her very first return to acting after giving birth to twins, Julia Roberts will join Sir Paul McCartney and Robin Williams at a star-studded benefit for Paul Newman's Hole in the Wall Camps, the world's largest association of camps for children with serious illnesses.

The Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall event in New York will feature a performance which will be co-produced by veteran entertainer Lou Adler. Roberts and Newman, in addition, will team up for one of the evening's dramatic turns. There hasn't further details provided about the event.

Multitalented actress Jennifer Lopez is considering to move into politics and planning to recruit activist pal Jane Fonda as her adviser later when she starts getting serious with it. The latin beauty admits to never got involved in the political or social issues because she didn't think her voice was mattered, until she working with Fonda who once dubbed Hanoi Jane for her outspoken opposition to the war in Vietnam.

From that point Lopez becomes more interested in politics and starts to think the more mature someone, the more he or she should aware the world around. Fonda, to add, has willingly offered her help to Lopez whenever she needs her advice about what's wrong and what's right so that the actress won't get herself into trouble.

Britney Spears is Pregnant

The truth is; Britney Spears is pregnant. Finally she admits it. In a statement posted in her official Web site on Tuesday April 12, 2005, Spears wrote "The time has finally come to share our wonderful news that we are expecting our first child together. There are reports that I was in the hospital this weekend, and Kevin and I just want everyone to know that all is well. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers."

The announcement came the same day Star magazine reported the pop diva was rushed to the emergency room of Sacred Heart Hospital in West Destin, Florida, on Friday, accompanied by Federline and a bodyguard. Per unnamed sources, the magazine reported Spears was transferred to the larger Fort Walton Beach Medical Center's maternity ward, where she was treated for premature separation of the placenta from her uterus.
