Movie Story

The tragic loss of their unborn child has devastated Kate and John, taking a toll on both their marriage and Kate's fragile psyche as she is plagued by nightmares and haunted by demons from her past. Struggling to regain some semblance of normalcy in their lives, the couple decides to adopt another child. At the local orphanage, both John and Kate find themselves strangely drawn to a young girl named Esther. Almost as soon as they welcome Esther into their home, however, an alarming series of events begins to unfold, leading Kate to believe that there's something wrong with Esther-this seemingly angelic little girl is not what she appears to be. Concerned for the safety of her family, Kate tries to get John and others to see past Esther's sweet facade. But her warnings go unheeded until it may be too late... for everyone.

A lot of adoptive parents are angry about one line in this film: “It must be hard to love an adopted child like your own.” How pathetic that they chose to be angry about this movie line but are perfectly content that their adopted child’s birth certificate was permanently sealed from him/her with their permission! Yes, adoptees have to live their lives carrying around “amended” birth certificates and are NEVER allowed to see their original birth certificates containing their true names and the names of his/her true biological parents. Adopting parents get to have their names placed on the amended certificates as the birth parents! What lies!!!! These violations of a child’s rights does not concern the protestors because it works for them! It’s not their ethnicities, their heritages that are sealed. No, their newly purchased child will be forced to accept these lies are his/her truth. These self-righteous idiots own the copyrights to their adopted child's identity and could care less that it's FICTION that on the child's birth certificate. It’s downright disgraceful and pathetic what people choose to protest. I’m an adoptee. A lot of my friends are adoptees. We want “Orphan” t-shirts to wear proudly because getting angry over one-liners and not giving a hoot about our civil rights is laughable.

I was real diasppointed in it...there was alot of unexplained stuff like how to Esther get over to the US and get the passports, why did they have all the sex scenes when it wasn't relivent (like they could of had her pregnant at the end since she lost her husband and her baby), does her son live? And there was NO ENDING..It just ended. I like the plot but alot of stuff was unexplained...

ok no matter what n.e 1 sayss...movies critcs, people, people bored with there lives.. no matter what n.e 1 says this movie is not doubt a 5 star movie!! .. how r u goin to say that the sex scenes were irrelivent? well what I think the scenes were there for was to show u how weirdly mature esther was wen kate went to explain to her what she saw and she says "I kno they fuck".. also to show how fustrated kate was. and her being pregnant at the end would have juss killed the movie .. I mean come on I juss had amiscarriage.. broke an orphans neck and killed her and now im pregnant again? I mean come on way to kill a movie!..and as for the son.. I had thought the same thing wen I 1st seen it but after that I realized that he survived becase they ended up gettin his pulse back .. I mean lady how would u have wanted it to end...it ended perfectly fine I mean cleaning up the scene a bit and maybe adding a 10 yrs. later thing could have been ok but u kno that would have killed it too.... this movie was no doubt a 5 star movie. excellent acting from everyone .. it made you feel the emotion especially the mother (kate) I

this is my favorite movie. i am a younger tween and i love scary and nothing is every too scary for me... until i found this. I watched it in theaters at 9. my brothers were at Grandmas 4 the week and i slept upstairs alone. I woke up and jumped. I thought i saw Esther standing over me. Ever since then I've been having nightmares that my parents adopt her and she runs after my with a knife. It's my favorite movie, but it's scary...

I don't usually watch scary movies anymore but was really excited to see this one. i already had a plot in my head before watching and was extremely wrong about it. I loved the way the movie played out..yes some of the scenes were uncalled for and some questions were left in the end.But overall it was pretty scary and that was the point.
