Sophie Nyweide, a former child actress known for her roles in 'Noah' and 'Mammoth,' passed away at the age of 24 as her family urged society to better protect our children.

AceShowbiz - Sophie Nyweide, a former child actress who worked alongside stars like Michelle Williams and Russell Crowe, has died at the age of 24. According to an online obituary published by her family, she passed away on April 14.

Born in Vermont, Nyweide had promising career that spanned from her debut at age six in the 2006 movie "Bella" to significant roles in movies like "Mammoth" and Darren Aronofsky's "Noah."

The cause of her death was not revealed, but her family opened up about her struggle with mental health and trauma. Without going into details, they said, despite the concerted efforts of her family, therapists, and law enforcement officers, they were unfortunately unable to save her.

"Sophie was a kind and trusting girl," her family wrote in the obituary. "Often this left her open to being taken advantage of by others. She wrote and drew voraciously and much of this art depicts the depth she had and also represents the pain she suffered. Many of her writings and artwork are roadmaps of her struggles and traumas."

"Even with those roadmaps, diagnoses, and her own revelations, those closest to her, plus therapists, law enforcement officers and others who tried to help her are heartbroken their efforts couldn't save her from her fate," the obituary reads.

Her family noted that she self-medicated to cope with her trauma and shame, ultimately leading to her demise.

Sophie Nyweide's career was marked by her roles in various films and television series, including appearances in "Law & Order" and the reality series "What Would You Do?" which was her last screen appearance in 2015.

Her family described her as "creative, athletic and wise beyond her years" and emphasized that we must learn from her brief life and do better to protect our children.

"Sophie. A life ended too soon. May it not be in vain. May we all learn from her brief life on earth and do better. Yes, we must all protect our children and do better," they concluded.

In honor of Sophie Nyweide, her family requested that donations be made to RAINN - the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network, which is the largest anti-sexual violence organization in the U.S., in lieu of gifts or flowers.
