AceShowbiz - Tina Knowles, the mother of global superstars Beyonce Knowles and Solange Knowles, recently revealed her private journey to overcome cancer. Tina was diagnosed with stage 1 br*ast cancer in July of 2024.
It was discovered during a delayed mammogram appointment that had been missed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The diagnosis shocked Tina, who had always tried to maintain her health. "I've always tried to take care of myself. I just ... was in disbelief," she told Gayle King in an interview.
Tina underwent surgery to remove the cancerous tumor from her left br*ast in August and later underwent a second surgery to handle complications and is now cancer-free. "Cancer-free and incredibly blessed that God allowed me to find it early," she said.
Her daughters, Beyoncé and Solange, along with bonus daughter Kelly Rowland and niece Angie Beyincé, formed a formidable support system during her treatment. Tina fondly recalls how they provided emotional support, with Solange and Angie even singing "Walk With Me" to her before her surgery to lift her spirits.
The experience has taught Tina many valuable lessons, particularly the importance of regular mammograms. "I shudder to think what could have happened to me," she exclaimed.
Tina hopes her story will motivate other women to prioritize their health. "It's important not to slack on your mammograms," she emphasizes.
Tina detailed her journey in her memoir, "Matriarch". "I struggled with whether I would share that journey because I'm very private. But I decided to share it because I think it's a lot of lessons in it for other women," she explains.
Beyond her health battle, Tina has emerged healthier and more determined than ever. "I'm healthier, eating better, I lost weight," she says, adding that she wants to give people hope. "What scares me now is not making the best of every day that I have left in this life."
Her story is not just one of surviving cancer but also embracing life and the vital role of family in providing unwavering support through trials. As Tina Knowles puts it, "With them, I could get through anything."
