AceShowbiz - More winners had been announced at the 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 15. The big ceremony, hosted by Eugene Levy and Dan Levy, further celebrated the best in television with coveted awards.
That night saw Jean Smart being honored with the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, thanks to her role Deborah Vance on "Hacks". It marked the actress' third win as she beat out fellow nominees Ayo Edebiri from "The Bear", Kristen Wiig from "Palm Royale", Maya Rudolph from "Loot", Quinta Brunson from "Abbott Elementary", and Selena Gomez from "Only Murders in the Building".
"Thank you. Thank you so, so much. It's very humbling, it really is," Jean shared during her acceptance speech. The 72-year-old later joked, "And I appreciate this, because I just don't get enough attention."
Peacock's "The Traitors" was later announced as the best reality competition program. Meanwhile, Jessica Gunning wins her first Emmy award with Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie honor for her role on "Baby Reindeer".
"Thank you so much!" Jessica said while accepting the award. "I honestly feel like I'm going to wake up any minute now, this whole thing has been a dream. Thank you very, very much indeed. I'm so incredibly proud to be part of 'Baby Reindeer'. So I would just love to say a huge 'thank you' to everybody who let me, really."
As for Outstanding Scripted Variety Series, the award went to "Last Week Tonight With John Oliver". "The Daily Show", meanwhile, won, the Outstanding Talk Series award. Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special award, on the other hand, was presented to Alex Edelman for his work on "Alex Edelman: Just for Us".
Other honorees that night included Steven Zaillian who took the award for Outstanding Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for "Ripley". "Hacks" won its second win when Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs and Jen Statsky were named as the winner of Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series award.
