'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' was the biggest winner of the night with three nods while 'Pitch Perfect 2' and 'Deadpool' picked up two each.

AceShowbiz - It was "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" that went home with the top prize at the 25th annual MTV Movie Awards. Director J.J. Abrams and cast Daisy Ridley accepted the last golden popcorn trophy handed out on the Saturday, April 9 ceremony at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California.

Abrams accepted the award from Samuel L. Jackson and Alexander Skarsgard. "I gotta say, it was an incredible honor to be part of the Star Wars saga," Abrams said. Ridley also won the Breakthrough Award for her role in the "Star Wars" movie. "It feels especially amazing to be part of a film that represents all genders, all races, and all ages in a positive way," she said. Her co-star Adam Driver was voted Best Villain but he was a no-show.

Earlier in the night, Charlize Theron picked up the best female performance for her role in "Mad Max: Fury Road". She accepted the award in her daughter's name, saying, "The story of 'Fury Road' is in part a story of the power of women and the power to create our own destinies."

"Pitch Perfect 2" won two nods; Best Ensemble, and Best Kiss for Rebel Wilson and Adam DeVine. Another double winner of the night was "Deadpool". Lead star Ryan Reynolds took the Best Comedic Performance while his showdown with Ed Skrein picked up Best Fight.

Will Smith and Melissa McCarthy received Generation Award and Comedic Genius Award respectively. "I want to help people. I want to be a light. I want to display love. I want to play roles that have dignity. I want to help in this world," Smith said. McCarthy was the first woman to receive the title and she quipped, "I am certainly, certainly not the first one to deserve it."

The 2016 MTV Movie Awards was held at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Kevin Hart were co-hosting. It will air Sunday, April 10 at 8 P.M. ET/PT on MTV, Comedy Central and other Viacom channels.
