The British/Irish boyband, who won the title for the second time in a row, also took home the Favorite Duo/Group - Pop/Rock Award.

AceShowbiz - One Direction had one big night at the 2015 American Music Awards, which has just been wrapped up. After winning the Favorite Duo/Group - Pop/Rock title just hours earlier, the boys were once again honored with the Artist of the Year trophy.

This is the four-piece's second time in a row to have won the prestigious award. Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne, who are very excited to spend time with their loved ones when One Direction takes a lengthy hiatus next year, thanked their families and record label after accepting the trophy from Jeremy Renner.

The boyband wasn't the only act taking home multiple AMAs during that night's telecast. Joining them were The Weeknd and Nicki Minaj. The Canadian star won Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album Award for his "Beauty Behind the Madness" and Favorite Male Soul R&B Artist.

Minaj, meanwhile, bagged the Favorite Hip-Hop Album Award for "The Pinkprint" and was named the Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist. She beat pal and fellow Young Money artist Drake for both prizes.

The 2015 American Music Awards aired live on ABC from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Taylor Swift led this year's nominees with six, and won three of them including Song of the Year for "Blank Space", Favorite Pop/Rock Album for "1989" and Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist.

Among others making up the winners list were Swift's boyfriend Calvin Harris (Favorite EDM Artist), her BFF Ed Sheeran (Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist), Rihanna (Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist), Carrie Underwood (Favorite Country Female Artist), Ariana Grande (Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist) and Luke Bryan (Favorite Country Male Artist).
