Pharrell Williams has been announced as the first live performer of the 2015 MTV Europe Music Awards. The "Happy" crooner is scheduled to take the stage at Mediolanum Forum in Milan on October 25.

Williams is also a nominee, vying for two categories Best Male and Best Video for his track "Freedom". He will go against Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Jason Derulo and Kanye West in the former category. Voting for the nights' awards are already open on MTVEMA.com.

Pharrell previously performed at the awards show in 2004 with Nelly and again in 2006 with Snoop Dogg. He had also shown up as presenters three times. More performers and presenters for this year's ceremony are expected to be announced shortly.

The 2015 MTV EMAs will be hosted by Sheeran and "Orange Is the New Black" star Ruby Rose. Nominees for the best U.S. act are Beyonce Knowles, Nicki Minaj, Nick Jonas, Kendrick Lamar andcTaylor Swift%. Minaj and Swift are also competing for the Best Female category along with Miley Cyrus, Rihanna and Ellie Goulding. Swift is the most nominated artist of the night with nine in total.
