Actress Minka Kelly became a Los Angeles nurse so she could pay her bills while she was chasing her modeling dreams. The caring star didn't want to waste time waiting tables while she went for talent auditions and so she spent a year working at a hospital.

She says, "I was a receptionist at this doctor's office and I became friends with this scrub nurse there because I was fascinated by the surgery and I wasn't squeamish. I got fired from that job... and I learned that going to school to be a scrub nurse was just over a year."

Surgical Tech = scrub nurse??? obviously Minka Kelly's short education did not give her the knowledge to differentiate among the many responsibilities of a REAL nurse.

Are you serious? I think one of the Survivor winners a few years back said she was a nurse as well, and; well...NOT! The media loves to help perpetuate this stuff...check things out before you report, eh? CNAs, med techs and surgical techs are not qualified to call themselves "nurse". It is a title earned by education and testing; and, did you know that in many states, it is ILLEGAL to say you are a nurse when you don't have the credentials to go with it. I'm a flight, yeah, I'm like an astronaut. Get it??

To clarify--obviously they are in the same area, but different for the reasons already mentioned

Two very different things--wish people would do more research!

A surgical tech is not a nurse -- none of the responsibility and they don't do patient care. And they didn't do half the amount of school or classes. Even community college RNs take one year of prereqs and two years of nursing classes.

scrub nurse and surgical technician are not the same thing...stop quoting it as the same thing or do some research
