Bobby Bones Won't Return to 'American Idol' Season 20: It Was 'a Great 4 Years'

While the radio personality's journey at the ABC show has come to an end, host Ryan Seacrest and judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie as well as Katy Perry are all returning for season 20.

AceShowbiz - Bobby Bones is bidding farewell to "American Idol". Announcing that he's not returning as an in-house mentor in season 20 of the singing competition series, the radio personality said that it was such "a great" 4-year experience.

The 41-year-old broke the news during a Q&A session on Instagram Story on Friday, December 31. After a fan asked, "How long till we get to know why y'all were in Costa Rica," he explained, "As soon as I can say, I will. The network hasn't even announced the show yet. So I'm going to chill for a bit. But it's a really good show."

"And some of you noticed I'm not in the Idol promos this season," Bobby went on explaining. "My contract w my new network won't let me do another show right now. Love Idol, btw. Was a great 4 years."

The season 27 winner of "Dancing with the Stars" first appeared on "American Idol" as a guest mentor for season 16 in 2018. He served as a full-time mentor in the show's season 17 in 2019 and stayed on for the next two seasons.

While Bobby's journey at the ABC show has come to an end, host Ryan Seacrest and judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie as well as Katy Perry are all returning for season 20. It will premiere on the network on February 27.

That aside, Bobby recently co-hosted "New Year's Eve Live: Nashville's Big Bash", which aired on CBS. Among the performers were Jimmie Allen, Miranda Lambert, Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, Brooks & Dunn and Dierks Bentley.

Posting some pictures from the event on Instagram, Bobby gushed, "Happy new year friends! I hope 2022 is every thing you want it to be!" He added, "I'll be crushing this apple cider all night. Thanks for watching tonight on @cbstv . You are the best. Be safe. Eat blackeyed peas. See you soon!"
