Woody Harrelson Wanted for Henchman Role in 'Venom'
Movie

The 'War for the Planet of the Apes' actor is currently in talks to join Tom Hardy in Sony's upcoming movie.

AceShowbiz - Sony's "Venom (2018)" is eying another big name to join its already impressive cast. According to Variety, the studio wants Woody Harrelson to play "a henchman of sorts" in the upcoming film. As both parties are still in negotiation stage, no other information is known regarding Harrelson's role at this time.

Should the deal be sealed, the "War for the Planet of the Apes" actor will join Tom Hardy, who plays Eddie Brock a.k.a. the titular host of an alien symbiote in the movie. Other cast members include Michelle Williams who has been cast as a district attorney and Brock's possible love interest, Riz Ahmed who plays "an Elon Musk type" lab owner, and Jenny Slate who takes on a scientist role.

"Venom" is currently filming in Atlanta, Georgia. And on Tuesday, December 11, a batch of photos from the set surfaced online featuring Eddie Brock's two-wheeled ride. But it's not Hardy himself who was on the black bike. A stunt double was filling in for the actor. He was seen driving the bike which appeared to take flight.

"Venom" will hail from Sony's Marvel Universe and will not be a spin-off of the current MCU franchise which has Tom Holland playing Spider-Man. It's based on the villain who appeared in "Spider-Man 3" and is hoping the character could serve as an antidote to the aging "Spider-Man" franchise in the way that Fox has used Wolverine to add longevity to its "X-Men" franchise.

Serving behind the lens is Ruben Fleischer, who took inspiration for the character's portrayal from a quote in the comics: "You're Eddie Brock. I'm the symbiote. Together we are Venom." Hardy is also doing performance capture for the role. Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinker and Kelly Marcel provide the screenplay. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing along with Amy Pascal, with Palak Patel and Eric Fineman overseeing for Columbia Pictures.

The film is scheduled to open in theaters across the nation on October 5 next year.
