The 'Rise' hitmaker gets teary eyes as she surprises Tony Marrero during an emotional meeting on 'Ellen DeGeneres Show'.

AceShowbiz - Katy Perry got emotional during her recent visit to "The Ellen DeGeneres Show". The singer couldn't contain her emotions when she met Tony Marrero, an Orlando shooting survivor. He was shot in the back four times and died on his way to the hospital before being revived.

He said Katy's song "Rise" helped him get through his journey to recovery. "The lyrics to that song are so powerful, every word in that song is powerful, so I embraced it," he said. The singer then came out with a napkin in her hand and cried as she went to hug a teary-eyed Marrero.

"We're both electrified by each other. It's so inspired," she said before he told her, "I just want to say thank you for everything you do. Your lyrics to that song helped me from the day that I was in the hospital all the way to now." She replied, "I'm happy I could be there in my own little way to help you."

The surprise didn't stop there. "I heard that you're a creative just like me, and you have dreams, and you want to go out there and do good and fulfill them," the singer said. "I heard that you want to go to film school, so I personally want to pay for your first year at film school."

Ellen DeGeneres inspired by the "Still swimming, Ellen" sign that Marrero was holding in a hospital bed when he was still recuperating set up a private movie screening for him and his friends. "I know you are still healing and recovering obviously emotionally, all kind of ways, but you haven't had a chance to see Finding Dory yet," the host explained. She also said there's a $25,000 donation from Shutterfly to the GoFundMe for Pulse victims.
