The network has greenlit the new superhero project which is now called 'DC's Legends of Tomorrow', a new drama from Julie Plec, as well as an hourlong comedy starring Rachel Bloom.

AceShowbiz - The "Arrow / The Flash" spin-off is officially happening. The CW has given series orders to the latest superhero project, which is now called "DC's Legends of Tomorrow", as well as two other pilots.

"DC's Legends of Tomorrow" is a superhero team-up that sees time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) being tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat - one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself.

Joining the cast are Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer/The Atom), Wentworth Miller (Leonard Snart/Captain Cold), Dominic Purcell (Mick Rory/Heat Wave), Victor Garber (Martin Stein/one half of Firestorm), Ciara Renee (Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl), Franz Drameh (Jay Jackson) and Caity Lotz, whose role is still unclear since her character Sara Lance died earlier this season on "Arrow".

The show is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, Marc Guggenheim and Sarah Schechter. It hails from Bonanza Productions, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. TV.

The CW has also picked up "Cordon" from "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Originals" showrunner Julie Plec to series. Based on a Belgian series, the dark drama revolves around an epidemic that breaks out in Atlanta, leaving some people stuck on the outside of a large city quarantine.

Chris Wood, David Gyasi, Christina Moses, Kristen Gutoskie, Claudia Black, George Young, Hanna Mangan Lawrence and Trevor St. John are among the cast. Plec will serve as executive producer along with David Nutter ("The Flash", "Arrow").

Another pilot which has got the greenlight is "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend". The hourlong comedy, which was passed on by Showtime back in June 2014, centers on Rebecca Bloom (Rachel Bloom), a successful New York attorney who abandons her charmed life to start over again in West Covina, Calif.

Comedian Bloom created the show and will serve as executive producer along with Aline Brosh McKenna and Marc Webb. Additional cast is yet to be announced.

The good news aside, some other shows have been canceled by The CW. Several sites confirm that the network won't pick up "Hart of Dixie" for a fifth season, and freshman drama "The Messengers" won't get a second season.
