CBS' 'Supergirl' Finds Its James Olsen in 'Necessary Roughness' Alum

Mehcad Brooks, who had a lead role on USA's 'Necessary Roughness', will play Melissa Benoist's on-screen love interest on the upcoming superheroine series.

AceShowbiz - CBS has found the love interest for Melissa Benoist's "Supergirl". Mehcad Brooks has been cast in the role of James "Jimmy" Olsen on the television adaptation of DC Comics superheroine.

James, who in the comic books is referred to as Jimmy, is described as an attractive photographer at CatCo, the media company where Kara Zor-El a.k.a. Supergirl works as an assistant to Cat Grant. He has recently been living and working in National City, through the reason is still a secret.

James also appears in the Superman comics where he's depicted as Lois Lane and Clark Kent's close friend.

"Supergirl" tells the story of Superman's cousin Kara Zor-El, who also lands on Earth after escaping Krypton. She's been hiding the powers she shares with Superman, but later decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

Greg Berlanti ("The Flash", "Arrow") and Ali Adler ("Glee", "The New Normal") will executive produce the superheroine project in addition to penning the scipt for the pilot. The hour-long drama received a series commitment from CBS last September.

Brooks led USA's "Necessary Roughness" which ran from 2011 until 2013. He also appeared on "Desperate Housewives", "The Game" and "True Blood"
