Justin Lin May Return for Final 'Fast and Furious' Movies
Movie

Now that his Jeremy Renner-starring 'Bourne' movie is thrown into limbo, Lin is reportedly being courted to give the 'Furious' franchise a closure.

AceShowbiz - Words are circulating that Justin Lin is planning a return to the "Fast and Furious" franchise for a final curtain call. Universal Studios reportedly is welcoming Lin who directed four out of the seven-film franchise.

Lin passed on "Furious 7" and went on signing as the helmer of an untitled new Bourne movie starring Jeremy Renner. "Saw" director James Wan later took over and directed the seventh film, which will hit theaters April 2015. It looks like Wan won't be returning to the "Fast and Furious" franchise for a while because he has signed up as "The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist" helmer.

According to Deadline, Universal is reeling on the success of the "Furious 7" trailer which was hit by over 100 million people within 48 hours. It only makes sense that Lin, who revived the franchise at the time it seemed to be out of gas, will be talking to the studio again. The plan is for him to direct not just an eighth movie but multiple movies, shot simultaneously. The franchise may end after that.

After all, the fate of his "Bourne" movie became complicated after Matt Damon confirmed that he's returning to the Renner-free franchise with Paul Greengrass. The film titled "Bourne 5" is being readied for 2016 release, meaning there's not enough room for another "Bourne" movie in the near future. Lin may be available to direct the "Furious" film after helming the pilot for new series "Scorpion" and two episodes of "True Detective" second season.

Universal is yet to comment on the report.
