"The Lego Movie 2" officially gets a green light as the first film is crossing $200 million mark worldwide after only two weeks of release and showing no sign of slowing down. Warner Bros. announces the second entry will be released in the U.S. on May 26, 2017.

Jared Stern and Michelle Morgan are tapped to pen the script for the sequel. The original was directed and written by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. It's unclear if the director duo will return to the directing seat, but they once said they instead wanted to serve as producers for the follow-up.

There is also no word if any of the original voice cast will be back for the second installment. Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Channing Tatum, and Jonah Hill are among the ensemble in the first film.

Coming out February 7 to an overwhelmingly positive review, "The Lego Movie" opened to $69M, marking the second highest weekend debut in February after "The Passion of the Christ" ($83.8 million). It has since grossed over $150 million nationally and is now expected to top domestic box office for the third consecutive week this coming weekend.

Warner Bros. is also developing "Ninjago", a ninja story in an alternate kiddie-friendly Lego universe.
