Michael McKean was stuck by a car while crossing the street at Broadway and West 86th Street in New York City. In a picture obtained by New York Daily News, the 64-year-old actor was bleeding from his head and was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.
He was initially in critical condition when being taken to St. Luke's Hospital, but his condition has improved to stable. He suffers a broken leg, but his family are still waiting to hear the full extent of his injuries from doctors to find out if he has other broken bones.
"He'll be okay, hopefully he'll be fine," said his publicist Harriet Sternberg. "It's pretty devastating." McKean stays in hospital with his actress wife Annette O'Toole by his side. Rumor has it, she immediately flew from their home in Los Angeles upon learning about the accident.
McKean is best known for playing Leonard "Lenny" Kosnowski on '70s sitcom "Laverne and Shirley" and David St. Hubbins in rock mockumentary "This Is Spinal Tap". He currently stars on Broadway in Gore Vidal's "The Best Man" at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on West 45th Street in NYC.
"Tonight will be the first time in the entire history of his very long career that he's ever missed a show," Sternberg said. "I know he was really proud that [record]."
