'The Smurfs' Production Halted After Set Accident

A set worker fell from a set lift during the shooting on Thursday, May 20 in NYC, but the man is said to be in stable condition.

Production of "The Smurfs" has been put on hold on Thursday, May 20 following an accident happened on the set. According to reports, a worker fell from a set lift which is 30 feet above the ground during the shooting at a top toy store in New York City.

The accident happened at around 6.30 A.M. after the man reportedly worked throughout the night. Paramedics were soon called to the spot and the set worker, whose identity has not been mentioned, was taken to Bellevue Hospital Center. New York Post claims the man is now in stable condition.

When the accident happened, director Raja Gosnell was shooting scenes at FAO Schwarz with Hank Azaria, who portrays villainous Gargamel. There has been no further information released on the news, including when the shooting will resume.

"The Smurfs" will follow the adventures of a mythical race of little blue creatures in medieval times that must deal with each other and humans, particularly an evil wizard obsessed with capturing them for his own sinister purposes. Neil Patrick Harris is cast as the primary live-action character while Katy Perry, Jonathan Winters, George Lopez and Alan Cumming will voice the diminutive blue beings. This animation will be released by Columbia Pictures on July 29, 2011 in the U.S.

    What a typical nyc sunday experience ~ hate drenched racists abound at fao schwarz 5 30 2010 this afternoon,while outside sat an horde of fake newyork movie people guarded with real public taxdollar nyc police officers,while inside the real store oozed with arrogent racism above average。 Dont even try to be asian going in there or outside this oozing flock of anglos and ilks。

    Saw them filming today in Rockefeller Center. Saw Neil Patrick Harris, Hank Azaria and Tim Gunn. They were there most of the day. It was pretty interesting to watch!

    Production is not halted it was just delayed for a few hours, - Yesterday the production briefly came to a halt, howeverreportedly a worker on set took a 30-foot fall from a lift while shooting at FAO Schwarz. This came after 9 hours of shooting a Gargamel/Smurf chase scene in the store, at around 6:30 a.m. The worker is now in stable condition at Bellevue, and it looks like shooting will stay on schedule. Signs are already posted in the East Village, where they'll shoot this weekendother locations include Cortlandt Alley, the New York Public Library, and next Tuesday, 68th Street and Central Park West.
