'A Nightmare on Elm Street' Finds Director in Samuel Bayer

Two-time MTV VMAs' Director of the Year, Samuel Bayer, has been hired by Platinum Dunes and New Line Cinema to helm the re-imagining of the Wes Craven classic, 'A Nightmare on Elm Street'.

AceShowbiz - "A Nightmare on Elm Street" remake is moving forward with the pick up of its director. The Hollywood Reporter's Risky Biz Blog reported that both Platinum Dunes and New Line Cinema have appointed music video director Samuel Bayer to helm the re-imagining of the Wes Craven classic, making the project Bayer's directorial debut for feature film.

Samuel Bayer is known for his works in commercials and music videos. Having won MTV Video Music Awards' Director of the Year in 2005 and 2007, his music video credits include Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit", Blind Melon's "No Rain", Green Day's "American Idiot" and Justin Timberlake's "What Goes Around.../...Comes Around".

"A Nightmare on Elm Street" is a reboot of horror classic which revolves around Freddy Krueger, a serial killer who terrorizes teens in their dreams. Written by Wesley Strick, the movie is said to be shot in the Chicago suburbs. In earlier interview, co-producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form had hinted that the potential filming schedule may fall into place in spring of 2009. Though the original depicter of Krueger, Robert Englund, won't take the lead role in it, the producers plan to give him a cameo part.
