My Chemical Romance's cover version of Bob Dylan's 1965 song called "Desolation Row" has arrived. The track was exclusively recorded for the soundtrack of forthcoming blockbuster movie "Watchmen", which stars Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup and Jeffrey Dean Morgan among others.
In regard of the band's contribution to the film's soundtrack, frontman Gerard Way says "there have been other offers to do this kind of thing, and usually the timing always made it impossible." Then he adds, "But when the chance came to do a cover of one of my favorite artists, Bob Dylan, for a film version of my favorite work of fiction of all time we had to jump at the chance."
Beside listing a song from My Chemical Romance, "Watchmen" soundtrack album will also have Leonard Cohen's 1984 hit single "Hallelujah" and Bob Dylan's 1964 classic "The Times They Are A-Changin'". The LP is due for U.S. release on March 3.

I LOVE MCRRR
Wow, you can't even spell stupid, that's sad, and no, Bob Dylan's more a man than you'll ever be. HAHAHA I'VE GOT GUTS. INDEED I DO.
you think you're all smart. stoopid losers. dylan is a woman right?
Hey smartguy, I didn't say I hated MCR, as a matter of fact, they're my favorite band. All I'm saying is that you need to keep your mind and spirit open to other music and musical aspirations. Now I hope you understand me. (I still think ur pretty stupid and ignorant tho) BOY HAVE I GOT GUTS!!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!
An awesome cover of one of my top 3 favorite Dylan. I'm really glad that it was MCR who did this one, as they are on of the best groups nowadays. This was said by one that is just a few years younger then the named Dylan.
shut the fuck up avid bastard. go suck up to gay dylan bitch
Wow..this track is brilliant. Although it is a cover version! Wasn't sure what to think at first, but it's brilliant. It's back to the good music, before Black Parade. Brilliantly covered to suit there own music style! Well done guys. Keep it up.
ok for all you people who don't know Dylan, first of all the guys a fucking genius, and i'm sure even MCR fans will agree. just listen to the Lyrics. Speaking as a dylan fan i can relate to the guys who say this cover is shit. this has been one of my favourite songs for years, and to think a band like MCR are going to get credit for it is sickening, because lets face it, once its on radio, nobody will think Bob Dylan, they'll think MCR. However you have to look at things from another perspective and think well, Bob Dylans allowed them to use it, so he must see something in it, and as hard as may be for Dylan fans to take, that something is probably money.
Smart Guy is a stupid idiot who can't appriciate good artists, LISTEN, SMARTGUY, IF YOU DON'T LIKE BOB DYLAN, OR DON'T KNOW WHO HE IS, YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO LIKE MCR!!! PEOPLE WHO THINK THIS COVER IS BAD OR BOB DYLAN SUCK NEED TO OPEN THEIR MINDS TO MUSIC.
TO FUCKERS THAT THINK THEY'RE SMART. mcr is kinda ACT emo. but i like their music and dun give a fuck bout their presentation. so shut the fuck up about the bad cover and whoever this bobby dylan brat is, its his original song but no one gives a shit i think
Lame: stereotypical pop-punk cover? what are you fuucking retarted? are you aware of what pop punk is? it is so unfortunate that so many people are close minded, open up you fuucking venus fly traps shieeet!
wow, so many close minded people, the bob dylan song is very good, the mcr cover is very good, they have done justice to it. They could have played it acoustic for 11 minutes just like the original but instead they went to a huge effort to make somthing different yet reflective of the song and appropriate to the film it is in vain of.
Awesome song!!!
I really dislike this cover for two reasons. One - MCR sucks and they completely butchered this AMAZING song. Two - When this song starts getting a ton of airplay some fans of MCR who are stupid will go "OH MAN! this song is great, i can't believe they wrote this!!!!!!" When Dylan will get no credit by the fans of MCR for writing this masterpiece. The fans will argue and say who is bob dylan? i'm not saying all fans would do that but that is why i strongly hate this cover.
Ok, Ok, b4 all you go saying that I don't have teh attention span for an 11 min. song, just let me tell you, I've heard the original, and I'm a big Bob Dylan fan, I loved the original. But this, this was a-freakin-mazing! I am pumped after listening to this song. and after hearing the comments from mcr fans saying that the dylan version sucks, well you suck for hatin on dylan, cuz he inspired MCR alot. and for those who liked it that the song was cut to the short 2 1/2 minutes, well I would've loved mcr to do an 11 minute song, imagine hearing gerards voice for 11 minutes, heck yeah! unfortunatley they had to cut it, not cuz mcr wanted to, because they made them cut it. so yeah, I stand wehre everyone should, I love both versions of the song, I am kinda disappointed they didn't cover the whole thing tho. but listening to this one makes me happy, and hyper and wooooo!!! well peace out and remember. MCR ROCKS!!! BOB DYLAN FOREVER!!!
Okay, you know what? I apologize to all you hardcore Bob Dylan fans; I mean, like an unnecessarily long song as much as the next guy, but the truth is this, friends: No, the general public DOES NOT have the attention span for an 11 minute song. Don't blame MCR, blame today's standard of a "good song." You know, you could actually just go ahead and blame Kanye West. I think we can all agree that HE is an ass. I love MCR, and all of you questioning their greatness can go to hell. I've never actually heard the Bob Dylan version, but I can almost assuredly be 100% sure that MCR's cover is better. So yeah... t('.'t)
I am a MCR fan and I also know who Bob Dylan is. I believe the original and the cover are both good. I do wish that MCR used more of the verses from the original but Warner Bros. probably told them not too so they had to pick them out which was very hard for them to do. In the end, whether you like it or not, it will still be played. The fans did nothing so don't blame us please. I believe the original is excellent and so is Bob Dylan. I believe it is a marvelous cover song as well. That is my intake on this.
Now before I comment, don't get me wrong: I like new music and new movies. What I don't like are bad new music and bad new movies. We live in a time where just about every piece of art in our culture is eventually degraded by being turned into a film for suburban teenagers. Nobody is more receptive to branding, and nobody is a worse judge of how to spend disposable income. As a result, even a pretty good pop band can't cover a great Dylan song without it smacking of corporate blandness. Sorry kids, any corporate pop band in the past 25 years could have done this just as well. It was uninspired at best. I really hope the Watchmen film is more creative than this song, but that is hard to see happening. After all... it is only a "cover". What can they add except big names and CGI explosions? Same for the Desolation Row cover. On some level, the movie was made for the same reason this song was covered: to squeeze a final profit out of that concept. I'll give the movie a chance, but so far this isn't looking good.
Bob Dylan is a genuine music legend who redefined popular music. To think that MCR can attain the same status as him by playing their derivative brand of unoriginal pop/punk is absolutely ludicrous. As for the cover itself, I mean, they've done everything possible to ruin the song. They could've at least covered the whole song instead of just doing three minutes, but I expect MCR's natural audience doesn't have the attention span to listen to an eleven-minute song.
omg..... i heard the origanal song and it sounds like someone took a dump and and put it in there mouth before they started, i'm glad mcr saved that song
wow this is awful, I wonder if MCR fan's have even heard of Bob Dylan or Watchmen. This seriously makes me less interested in Watchmen considering Zac Snyder put up with this shit.
The video is amazing, i just saw it before, i love it! It's possibly one of MCRs best songs! :D They completely made it their own! :D
Wow. Obviously some of you don't know what kind of impact this band has on people. Just because the song is originally eleven minutes long, doesn't mean that MCR had to cover the WHOLE DAMN SONG. I really wonder if some of YOU even have the intention span to listen to an eleven minute song. Instead of making stupid remarks like that, why don't you focus on more important things. I personally think the song is a good cover. (and yes I have heard the original version of the song) Oh, and you don't have to be emo and cut yourself to like this band....
My Chemical Romance is amazing, they've changed people's lives, so until you have done so, then shut the ef up!!!
And I almost forgot, to "sigh". You obviously no nothing about MCR if you think that they are "superficial", and I know everyone has their own opinion and can voice them but you are so wrong that I can't even laugh at you, I actually feel pitty for you.
Most of don't like the cover because Bob Dylan is a legend in music and you don't want to here some "emo punk rock band" to remake his music. Well guess what! MCR will be music legends one day to and ya'll need to acept that. They are a rock band not emo or whatever the hell else you think they are. They recorded the song and there usein it in the movie. So shut up and deal with it. Personally I love MCR and I tink its a great cover.
The only reason most of you don't like it is because you're a bunch of lame ass scene kids that are used to MCR's typical style OR narrow minded old farts that don't appreciate music for what it is even if it is a cover, it's about freedom and expressing yourself, and just like everything else in this world, it's going to change and you have to learn to accept that. I think it's a cool song. It's not like any of your lame ass garage bands can do any better...
Wow, that really sucked. I now have my doubts about the creative minds behind Watchmen as well.
i loved this song and everyone has their own opinion but personally the people that attack it cant actually play an instrument so are jelous or are so narrow minded they only see their way which is often wrong. not everyone likes it but there is no reason to say, "oh it sucks, MCR suck ass, they are lame, MCR ruined the song" and by the way that guy Lame, if your going to say that about punk, change your name so it doesnt suggets that you and your views are Lame!
GOD! THAT SUCKS TO THE MAX!!!
Don't even need to heart it to know it sucks. Don't bother covering Bob.
My Chemical Romance are the best, they can do whatever they want. Don't diss them cuz you can't do what they can. So FUK off if you can't understand with your little insecure brains. Go continue living in your close-minded world.
My chem can do no wrng fookahs they rule this fecking wurld andblow ur tiny minds\
A cliched, superficial, "punk-ish" take on a great song of real integrity and depth. Yep, grandpa was right, we're all going to hell in a hand basket. The first misfire from THE WATCHMAN movie franchise.
unfortunately, it's the stereotypical pop-punk cover. fortunately, that is a free mp3.
oh my.. this is torture..where is bob when you need him. cant wait to see him soon and hear him play a descent version even with his raspy voice.
