New York Film Critics Circle Hailed 'Milk' 2008 Best Film

'Milk', the Gus Van Sant's biopic drama about the gay-rights icon Harvey Milk, has garnered three kudos from the 2008 NYFCC, while Mike Leigh's 'Happy-Go-Lucky' follows with two awards.

Gaining awards momentum, "Milk" shows its domination by collecting three awards from New York Film Critics Circle (NYFCC). On Wednesday, December 10, the biopic drama from director Gus Van Sant has been named the Best Picture of 2008 by the organization of film reviewers from New York-based publications.

Snagging two more kudos from the 2008 NYFCC, the movie about the gay-rights icon Harvey Milk who was tragically murdered a year after he was elected to public office brought recognitions for two of its performers, Sean Penn and Josh Brolin. Penn won the coveted Best Actor for his performance as Milk, while Brolin got the Best Supporting Actor prize for his portrayal of Dan White.

Though collecting the most awards from NYFCC, "Milk" was unable to present the Best Director kudo for Van Sant, since the prize went to "Happy-Go-Lucky" director Mike Leigh. Meanwhile, Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Best Picture "Wall-E" was named Best Animated Film of the year. Other winners can be read below.

Though the winners have been announced, the awards ceremony itself will be held on Monday, January 5, 2009.
