Nominations for the 20th GLAAD Media Awards Announced
January 27, 2009 02:01:10The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) have announced their selections for the 20th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, Tuesday, January 27. Among the nominees were the 81st Academy Awards' contenders, Gus Van Sant's biopic "Milk" and Woody Allen's drama comedy "Vicky Cristina Barcelona".
The two movies were recognized under the category of Outstanding Film for Wide Release. They will go head-to-head with Julian Jarrold's provocative drama "Brideshead Revisited", Guy Ritchie's crime thriller "RocknRolla" and Peter Sollett's romantic-teen-comedy "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist".

Movie Nominees of 13th Annual Art Directors Guild Awards
January 10, 2009 11:01:54Honoring the excellence in production design, the Art Directors Guild announced its nominees for the 2008 Excellence in Production Design Awards on Friday, January 9. Among those in the awards' shortlist are Gus Van Sant's gay icon biopic "Milk", Christopher Nolan's superhero film "The Dark Knight" and Danny Boyle's rag-to-riches drama "Slumdog Millionaire".
"Milk" received the nod for the period film category. It will be up against "Changeling", "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", "Doubt" and "Frost/Nixon". "Dark Knight", on the other hand, is on the run for best production design for a fantasy film alongside "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull", "Iron Man", "The Spiderwick Chronicles" and "Wall-E".

Winners of the 43rd National Society of Film Critics Awards Announced
January 05, 2009 01:01:40National Society of Film Critics have selected their best of 2008. At Sardi's Restaurant in New York on Saturday, January 3, the 63-member society compiled of critics from around the country have chosen Sean Penn as the year's best actor for his portrayal of gay-rights icon Harvey Milk in "Milk" and given "Happy-Go-Lucky" the most awards.
Collecting four kudos from the 43rd National Society of Film Critics Awards, drama comedy "Happy-Go-Lucky" brought home Best Director and Best Screenplay prizes for Mike Leigh. It also nabbed Best Actress for its star Sally Hawkins and Best Supporting Actor for Eddie Marsan. For her Best Actress award, Hawkins overshadowed Melissa Leo of "Frozen River" and Michelle Williams of "Wendy and Lucy".

New York Film Critics Circle Hailed 'Milk' 2008 Best Film

On Wednesday, December 10, the biopic drama from director Gus Van Sant has been named the Best Picture of 2008 by the organization of film reviewers from New York-based publications.
Snagging two more kudos from the 2008 NYFCC, the movie about the gay-rights icon Harvey Milk who was tragically murdered a year after he was elected to public office brought recognitions for two of its performers, Sean Penn and Josh Brolin. Penn won the coveted Best Actor for his performance as Milk, while Brolin got the Best Supporting Actor prize for his portrayal of Dan White.

Full Nominees List of the 14th Annual Critics' Choice Awards
December 10, 2008 11:12:28On Tuesday, December 9, the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) has unveiled their selections of movies and performers to compete in the 14th annual Critics' Choice Awards. Through the press conference at the MTV Network studios in Times Square, it is revealed that both "Milk" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" have shown strong domination with eight nominations for the awards.
The two drama movies will be up against each other in five categories, Best Picture, Best Director, Best Writer, Best Composer, Best Acting Ensemble and Best Actor, Sean Penn for "Milk" and Brad Pitt for "Benjamin Button". Beside those nods, "Milk" has also given two Best Supporting Actor gongs for James Franco and Josh Brolin, while "Benjamin Button" lands Best Actress count for Cate Blanchett and Best Supporting Actress nomination for Taraji P. Diego Luna to Be Sean Penn's Lover in 'Milk'?
January 19, 2008 10:01:07Mexican actor Diego Luna has reportedly been signed to join the cast of "Milk". According to Entertainment Weekly, the actor in Salma Hayek's "Frida" gets the part of Jack Lira, the supporter and lover of Sean Penn's character, Harvey Milk.
The biopic tells the story of Milk, who was the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in America. He was voted to be in the city supervisors' board of San Francisco in 1977, but assassinated the following year along with Mayor George Moscone by another city supervisor, Dan White.

Variety has revealed that Oscar-nominated director Gus Van Sant is on the move to make an untitled feature about Milk with Dustin Lance Black, writer of several episodes of the HBO's drama series "Big Love", set to pen the screenplay. It is said that the scribe's agents at Endeavor will shop around the script early next week.
