The push back to January 2009 is reasoned as the attempt to promote the show longer.
The sixth installment of reality show "Project Runway" is not so imminent with the announcement from Lifetime that they will pick up the new season only in January 2009. It was scheduled previously that the show would start in November this year, but the network said that they need more time to develop the new cycle so that there will be longer time to promote the show.
"With this move, the series will resume its traditional cycle of two seasons per year," a spokesperson from Lifetime said. "We look forward to ringing in the New Year by giving Project Runway loyal fans a superlative season six with Heidi, Tim, Nina, and Michael. The new date and time will be announced soon." Lifetime was handed the screening rights from Bravo TV in Spring for a five years deal.
The delay has been hinted to have no relation with the on-going lawsuit between Bravo's parent company NBC/Universal and show's producers Weinstein Co.. Instead, it is suggested that it is simply because Lifetime are behind the schedule to get the show ready this Fall. However, a Lifetime insider denied this, telling Entertainment Weekly that the production has been in motion and that the cast are in.
"Project Runway" is rolling its fifth season on Bravo TV, and will wrap it up on October 15.
