Maria Sharapova, World No.1

Winning tennis competition isn't something new for marvelous tennis player Maria Sharapova. Though, becoming the top-ranked women's tennis player in the Women's Tennis Association rankings is quite a surprising and becomes the proud of the female athlete.

Tops the bill with 4,452 points, Sharapova definitely beats American tennis player Lindsay Davenport, who lost the top spot after 10 months with 4,300 points. "When you look at the incredible competitiveness and depth in women's tennis these days, it's really amazing to be No. 1,'' Sharapova said in a WTA Tour statement.

Howard as MVP of the Summer

With his brilliant performances in "Crash" as well as in "Hustle & Flow," no doubt Terrence Howard has been established as the Most Valuable Player of the Summer. Compiled by Entertainment Weekly, the list places the young actor at top number one, followed by Matt Dillon and Cillian Murphy at number 2 and 3. Arranged in order, the rest are Angelina Jolie, Amy Adams, Vince Vaughn, Dakota Fanning, Miranda July, Ian McDiarmid, and Paul Giamatti.

Bice Hospitalized

After missing Thursday's concert on the American Idols Live! tour, Bo Bice had to undergo an emergency surgery in Las Vegas on Friday to remove a blockage in his intestines. Although there was no official statement from the promoters of the tour concerning the singer's health, a posting on the Website for his band, Sugarmoney, mentioned that the operation was successful. However, Bice at least has to rest for six weeks, which could mean that he wouldn't return to the Idols Live! tour.

Fans of Gwen Stefani probably would not see the pop queen walking on a red carpet at the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards. She, along with her husband Gavin Rossdale, furiously refused to attend the award show as she was deeply offended by the negligence of the music channel to offer her a performing slot.

It's All about Acting

In response to the tabloid reports which mentioned that he had a breakdown while filming a scene related to the death of Johnny Cash's older brother named Jack in "Walk the Line," Joaquin Phoenix firmly denied all the tidings, saying to Newsweek magazine that he was acting, and definitely was not flipping out.

Portraying Cash, the actor remarked that he only tried to get into his character's emotional state when banged his head on a bedpost during a scene in which Cash is going through drug withdrawal.

PETA's Honor to Baldwin

Give salute to Alec Baldwin for PETA is about to honor him the Linda McCartney Memorial Award at its 25th anniversary gala held on Sept 10 in Hollywood, California. The event will be hosted by comedic actor, Fred Willard, and is expected to be attended by Pamela Anderson, Dennis Rodman, Andy Dick and Heather Mills McCartney.

Baldwin is granted the award based on his narration on a short documentary for this animal rights organization entitled "Meet Your Meat" which led to the policy changes at Burger King. The video was successful to persuade the fast food company to sever its ties to slaughterhouses that fail unannounced audits and to lend support to the Humane Slaughter Act.

The End of Pitt's Marriage

Finally there is no more golden couple of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston as their divorce has been legally signed off. However, according to California law, the separation won't be official until October 2.

The divorce papers previously were signed by retired Judge Jill S. Robbins whom the couple had asked to handle their break up privately. The papers afterwards were filed on August 19 in L.A. Superior Court.
