The Band Perry Biography

news-detailsThe Band Perry were formed by siblings Kimberly, Reid and Neil Perry in 2005 but they weren't always a band. Kimberly and her siblings have been interested in music since they were kids but it was the eldest, Kim, who formed a band first. "Reid and Neil's first job was tuning guitar strings and polishing drum cymbals for me and my guys. They were my little roadies," Kim recalled.

Reid and Neil then grew older and began their own band which Kim admitted were better than hers. Then the inevitable happened. "I was their musical director and I think we all knew that we would do a three-piece musical family band at some point. But we just had to wait for the right moment, for the boys to get a little taller," said Kim.

The Band Perry were officially formed in the Carolinas in 2005. As a trio they were lucky to be booked by Coke and Wal-Mart to do the New Faces Of Country Music Tour right away. They began to get gigs at concerts and radio stations. But it was not until 2008 that they made connections with Garth Brooks' manager, Bob Doyle. Following the encounter, the trio spent time writing and recording music in Nashville where they were discovered by label executives Jimmy Harnen and Scott Borchetta.

In 2009, The Band Perry signed a recording deal with Republic Nashville that released their debut single "Hip to My Heart". Released in November that year, the song was enough to absorb the attention for the new band. It went up to number 20 on Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. In the meantime, they released a self-titled EP in June 2010.

Their debut album got the help from producers Nathan Chapman and Paul Worley. Its first single, "If I Die Young" experienced huge success as it shot to number one on the Country chart after a few months. "The Band Perry" was released in October 2010 and sold well over 50,000 copies. The band won the Academy of Country Music's top new vocal group prize in the beginning of 2011 and continued to shine throughout the year.

Country Music Association Awards held in November 2011 saw the band given best new artist and single of the year for "If I Die Young". The First Family then invited them to take part in the White House Country Night and, later, the band were booked to play at the Grammy Nominations concert alongside established stars such as Usher, Lady GaGa and Rihanna.
