AceShowbiz - Rapper Yella Beezy, best known for his chart-topping single "That's On Me," was taken into custody in connection with the 2020 shooting death of fellow rapper MO3.
The 33-year-old artist, whose real name is Markies Conway, was arrested and booked into the Dallas County Jail on Thursday, March 20. This arrest followed a grand jury indictment on the charge of "capital murder while remuneration."
The incident leading to these charges dates back to November 11, 2020, when MO3, born Melvin Noble, was fatally shot during a daytime attack on a Dallas highway. MO3, at the age of 28, was gunned down after being chased by the gunman - now identified as Kewon White.
According to Dallas outlets KDFW and WFAA, White, who is currently serving a nine-year prison sentence for firearm charges related to the shooting, was allegedly hired by Beezy to carry out the attack.
USA TODAY reports that court documents reveal Beezy "intentionally and knowingly" orchestrated the death of MO3 by hiring White for a promise of payment. The report detailed that "Kewon White did then and there intentionally and knowingly cause the death of (Noble) by shooting (him) with (a) firearm."
Details of the shooting painted a cold-blooded killing. White continuously fired his gun as MO3 attempted to flee, ultimately striking MO3 and an innocent bystander in a separate car. MO3 succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital while the bystander suffered non-life-threatening wounds.
Yella Beezy launched his career with self-released mixtapes in his teenage years. His big break came with his 2017 mixtape "Lite Work, Vol. 2," with the track "That's On Me" gaining significant popularity. It hit No. 25 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and peaking at No. 56 on the Hot 100 chart.
Following this success, Beezy collaborated with high-profile artists like Chris Brown, Ty Dolla $ign, Young Thug, and Gunna before releasing his most recent album, "Bad Azz Yella Boy," in August 2022.
