Bella Ramsey Talks About Being 'Properly in Love' Amid Maisy Stella Romance Rumors
Celebrity

'The Last of Us' actress Bella Ramsey opens up about experiencing love for the first time while delving into their journey with gender identity and the challenges that come with it.

AceShowbiz - Bella Ramsey, known for their captivating performance as Ellie in HBO Max's "The Last of Us", made comments about her love life. The non-binary actress said they were "properly in love" for the first time during the filming of the show's second season.

The "Catherine Called Birdy" star, 21, didn't go into details, but the remarks came amidst rising speculation about their relationship with Maisy Stella, also 21, who is known for her role in "Nashville."

Speaking to British Vogue for its April 2025 issue, Ramsey drew a parallel between their real-life experiences and their character, Ellie, who develops a romantic storyline with her best friend Dina, played by Isabela Merced, in season two of the show. "Experiencing that while I was filming the show was really special," Ramsey shared.

Rumors about Ramsey and Stella's relationship began swirling last year after a series of affectionate Instagram posts. In September 2024, Stella fueled speculation by sharing a photo on her Instagram Stories of the pair embracing, accompanied by a heartfelt birthday tribute to Ramsey. "Beautiful beautiful beautiful happy birthday the coolest comfiest most wonderful human imaginable," she gushed.

In the same British Vogue interview, Ramsey delved into discussions around their gender and sexual identity, discussing the challenges of coming out as nonbinary and expressing a preference for not labeling themselves.

"Part of the job of being an actor is that you're supposed to have an answer to every question that people ask you," Ramsey said. "But actually the answer can be: 'I don't know and I'm not ready to talk about that,' and that's something that I'm still figuring out."

Ramsey, who was diagnosed with autism while shooting the first season of "The Last of Us," credited the diagnosis with helping them understand themselves better. However, when it comes to gender and sexuality, they feel boxed in by labels.

"It does make me a bit sad that people who aren't in the public eye can explore their gender identity or sexuality in private," they lamented, highlighting the unique pressures of celebrity life. "That's a privilege I don't really get any more."

"The Last of Us" season 2 is set to premiere on April 13 and fans can expect to see returning stars like Pedro Pascal as Joel, along with new cast members including Kaitlyn Dever and Tati Gabrielle. Showrunner Craig Mazin promises both familiar and surprising twists, ensuring that the adaptation stays true to the beloved video game while adding fresh elements.
