Edgar Wright's upcoming adaptation of Stephen King's 1982 novel 'The Running Man', gets a new release date to avoid competition with 'Wicked: For Good'.

AceShowbiz - Paramount Pictures has moved the theatrical release of Edgar Wright's "The Running Man" from November 21, 2025, to November 7, 2025. This shift ensures that the film will not clash with the release of Universal Pictures' musical adaptation "Wicked: For Good". Additionally, the new date secures valuable IMAX screen access for "The Running Man".

The film, an adaptation of King's 1982 novel, stars Glen Powell as Ben Richards, a desperate man who joins a deadly game show to earn money for his sick daughter. Joining Powell in the cast are Josh Brolin, Katy O'Brian, Lee Pace, Daniel Ezra, William H. Macy, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, Jayme Lawson and David Zayas.

Wright emphasized that his adaptation will be a fresh take on King's novel, rather than a remake of the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger film. "I like the film but I like the book more, and they didn't really adapt the book," Wright stated.

Powell echoed Wright's excitement, stating that the film "is really taking the Stephen King book and just adding a lot of fun Edgar Wright flavor to it."

Despite the earlier release date, "The Running Man" will still face competition from two other films opening on the same day: Dan Trachtenberg's "Predator: Badlands" and Yorgo Lanthimos' "Bugonia".
