AceShowbiz - Josh Brolin is in final talks to star opposite Glen Powell in Paramount Pictures' "The Running Man." The action film, directed by Edgar Wright, is based on the 1982 novel of the same name by Stephen King, which was originally published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. Brolin will play the ruthless producer of the violent game show at the heart of the story.
"The Running Man" is set in a dystopian America in the year 2025, where a desperate man named Ben Richards (Powell) participates in a deadly reality show to earn money for his sick daughter. The show involves Richards being hunted by professional killers, and the longer he survives, the more money he earns. Brolin's character will be the mastermind behind this macabre entertainment.
Katy O'Brian, Karl Glusman, and Daniel Ezra also star in the film, which is slated for release on November 21, 2025. Wright co-wrote the script with Michael Bacall and is producing with Simon Kinberg and Nira Park. George Linder will serve as executive producer.
Brolin's casting adds another high-profile name to a project that has been highly anticipated since its announcement. The actor has a long history of acclaimed performances, including Oscar-nominated roles in "Milk" and "No Country for Old Men." His recent credits include "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Avengers: Endgame."
The original "Running Man" novel was previously adapted for the big screen in 1987, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. The upcoming adaptation is expected to provide a fresh take on King's classic story.
