AceShowbiz - An autopsy from Argentina's National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office has provided sobering details regarding the untimely death of One Direction member Liam Payne.
The 31-year-old singer succumbed to "multiple traumas" and "internal and external hemorrhages" following a fall from the third-floor balcony of his hotel room at Hotel Casa Sur in Palermo, Buenos Aires. Payne was in Argentina for a concert by his former bandmate Niall Horan.
On Wednesday evening, October 16 hotel staff called emergency services, citing a guest "under the influence of drugs and alcohol." Unfortunately, by the time emergency services and police arrived at 5:07 p.m., Payne had already fallen, sustaining 25 injuries with the head trauma alone being "sufficient to cause death." According to the autopsy, Payne died on the spot due to the severity of his injuries.
Investigations by the prosecutor's office are treating the incident as a "doubtful death" or "suspicious death." Preliminary findings suggest Payne was alone at the time of his fall, with no defensive injuries that would indicate a struggle or third-party intervention.
Testimonies from hotel staff and two women who had spent time with Payne hours earlier before leaving, provide no clear motive. The autopsy also revealed that Payne likely did not adopt reflex postures to protect himself, implying he might have been semi- or fully unconscious during the fall.
The state police in Argentina reported finding narcotics and alcoholic beverages in Payne's room. Detailed examinations such as histopathological, biochemical, and toxicological tests are pending to provide more clarity on the incident. Payne's accident remains under investigation to uncover more details on how it transpired.
Liam Payne rose to fame as a member of One Direction, the boy band formed during the 2010 season of "The X Factor." Following the band's indefinite hiatus in 2015, Payne pursued a solo career, achieving success with hits like "Strip That Down." Despite past struggles with sobriety, which he publicly addressed, Payne had recently been striving to improve his life. He leaves behind his son Bear, whom he shared with ex Cheryl Cole, and his girlfriend Kate Cassidy.
Payne's family issued a heartfelt statement expressing their grief, "Liam will forever live in our hearts and we'll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul. We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time."
