The ex-husband of Whitney Houston and his wife Alicia Etheredge-Brown have expressed their condolences following the passing of Cissy Houston at the age of 91.

Cissy Houston's passing comes after a battle with Alzheimer's disease. She had been under hospice care in her New Jersey home.

Brown and Whitney Houston were married from 1992 to 2007. Their tumultuous relationship was marred by accusations of infidelity, substance abuse and physical abuse. The couple divorced in 2007.

Despite their divorce, Cissy Houston remained protective of her daughter Whitney, whom she praised for her talent and defended against Brown's allegations.

Cissy Houston's legacy will continue to live on through her music and the inspiration she provided to countless others. Her daughter Whitney and granddaughter Bobbi Kristina Brown both predeceased her.
