AceShowbiz - Chloe Bailey gets political in a new interview. The Chloe X Halle singer subtly revealed that she's giving her support for Kamala Harris for the upcoming presidential election against Donald Trump.
"There was a time when people who looked like me didn't have the opportunity to vote," the "Have Mercy" songstress revealed in an interview with Glamour. "I'm a black woman in 2024 who can make my voice heard - who can actually vote for another woman of color to possibly be president."
She further encouraged Gen Z to vote. "For this generation, no matter which way they go, it is important to place our vote and let our voices be heard," she noted.
While Chloe didn't explicitly endorse Kamala, her sister Halle Bailey made her stance known when she performed at the U.S. VP's Los Angeles fundraiser event on Sunday, September 29. Their mentor Beyonce Knowles also endorse Harris-Walz campaign as her song "Freedom" became a pillar in the promotional activities earlier in the year.
Back to the interview, Chloe also talked about how she feels society has made many steps forward when it comes to equality. "I can walk down the street and into any store as a black woman, I can make a living saying the things I choose to say in my music," she shared.
However, the sister of Halle wasn't particularly happy to see the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022. "But it's also sad to see how some of the same issues that women who fought for our rights before us faced are coming back up now, like the right to our own bodies. There's still a long road ahead to equality," the "Trouble In Paradise" artist said.
Chloe additionally talked about people's opinion on her singing songs with raunchy lyrics. "I'm 26 years old, and I'm singing about 'grown' topics because I am 'grown,' " the "Grown-ish" alum stressed. "A lot of my peers in the industry have lyrics that are raunchier than mine, but because people have been used to seeing me as a little girl, it's harder to digest it."
