AceShowbiz - At the 2024 ESPY Awards, held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on July 11th, Maksim Chmerkovskiy was clearly a man on a mission. The 44-year-old former "Dancing with the Stars" pro made his presence felt on the red carpet, but his thoughts were never far from his pregnant wife Peta Murgatroyd, who could give birth to their third son at any moment. Maksim told PEOPLE, "I mean I'm about to run to see the sign that you have a third child... If you see me run fast here at some point, that means it's go time."
Speaking to ET's Denny Directo, Chmerkovskiy shared that if Murgatroyd calls him twice in a row, that's his cue to leave immediately. He even joked about crawling out of the Dolby Theatre if necessary. Reflecting on how their lives have transformed over the years, Maksim said, "I had a period of time when I was young and single, now I have a period of time where it's Peta and I just multiplying."
The pair, who celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary earlier this month, are also parents to 7-year-old son Shai and 11-month-old son Rio. In March, they announced the impending arrival of their third boy via Instagram, humorously dubbing themselves "a real-life wolf pack." Murgatroyd posted, "I CANNOT BELIEVE WE WILL HAVE 3 BOYS!! Maks and I are beyond happy to have another buddy for Shai and Rio… we want them to be the best of friends."
Despite the chaos, Chmerkovskiy is relishing this busy phase. "I do feel like mothers of two-plus kids deserve a special extra medal. It's a lot of energy. It's about to be chaotic, and I love it," he told PEOPLE. He's been spending quality time with Shai, taking him along to events like the world premiere of "The Garfield Movie". "I want to be ingrained in their core memory, [and go,] 'This is what we did with dad.' "
This night wasn't just about Chmerkovskiy. The 2024 ESPY Awards opened with a stellar performance by R&B star Ciara, who was joined by tennis legend Serena Williams. Their dynamic duo act earned a standing ovation, energizing the crowd for an unforgettable evening. With Ciara currently on Missy Elliott's "Out of This World Tour", and recently releasing a remix with Christian rapper Hulvey, she's proving to be an unstoppable force.
As he awaits the arrival of baby number three, Chmerkovskiy balances his responsibilities with grace and humor, ready to leap into action whenever duty calls. When it comes to combining daddy duty with red carpet glitz, Maksim Chmerkovskiy certainly knows how to waltz through life's demanding choreography.
