During his appearance on Paris Hilton's 'I Am Paris' podcast, the Grammy-nominated singer opens up about the terrifying accident that broke his neck in 2013 and nearly cost him his life.

AceShowbiz - In a recent interview on Paris Hilton's "I Am Paris" podcast, Jason Derulo revealed the chilling details of a near-fatal accident that he experienced over a decade ago. While preparing for his 2013 world tour, Derulo was practicing back tucks in the gym under the guidance of a trainer.

"He had me doing like 50 back tucks back to back to back, which is another one of the worst ideas somebody's ever had," Derulo explained. "So I slipped during one of the back tucks and I landed on my head, breaking my C2 vertebrae."

The impact sent a shock through Derulo's body, and he immediately feared for his life. "As soon as it happened, I heard a big crack, and I was just like, 'Holy s**t, is this it? Is this how it all ends?' " he recalled.

Determined to prevent his mother, who was waiting for him in the car outside, from being alarmed, Derulo gathered his composure and walked to the vehicle. "I did not wanna alarm her, so after five minutes of laying on the ground, I got myself together and walked to the car holding my neck," he said.

At the hospital, X-rays and other tests confirmed the severity of Derulo's injury. The doctor delivered the diagnosis with both good and bad news. "The good news is that you have a hangman's break, which is the same break that happens when you get hung. And you're still alive. This could've ended up way crazier: paralyzed or worse," the doctor explained. "The bad news is you're gonna be out for seven months."

The news devastated Derulo, as it forced him to cancel his highly anticipated tour. "I had to let all these people down," he said. "I know how much this means to people, people save their money... and they wanna be part of this experience. All of a sudden all of that s**t was down the drain."

Despite the setback, Derulo found a way to stay productive during his recovery. By creating a strict routine of exercise, studio time, and common daily activities, he found solace and inspiration. "I created a routine for myself: I woke up in the morning, went to the gym and walked, I walked for about 45 minutes a day, and then I spent hours and hours in the studio," he explained. "Same time, same places every single day, and that's when I wrote my most successful album, the 'Talk Dirty' album, which had 'Talk Dirty', 'Other Side', 'Marry Me', 'Wiggle' - all kinds of hits off that album."
