AceShowbiz - Jon Cryer has looked back at the time when he was romancing Demi Moore. When reflecting on their past relationship, the "Extended Family" actor claimed he had no idea that his-now-ex was battling with addiction when they were dating.
"We dated for a short time while we were working on 'No Small Affair', but I guess our particular affair was, in fact, pretty small," the 59-year-old told PEOPLE, referring to their 1984 film. "She was already struggling with a drug problem. One that I was blissfully unaware of until a couple of weeks before the movie ended."
Demi's journey to sobriety wasn't a smooth one. In her 20s, the ex-wife of Bruce Willis went to rehab for drug and alcohol addiction but relapsed in her 40s. She finally got clean again in her 50s.
"In retrospect, what I realized is that when I opened the door (again), it was just giving my power away," she explained in an interview to Lena Dunham published in 2019 in Harper's Bazaar. "I guess I would think of it like this: It was really important to me to have natural childbirth because I didn't want to miss a moment. And with that I experienced pain."
"So part of being sober is, I don't want to miss a moment of life," Frmi, who also got candid about "her dysfunctional childhood" and "past loves|" with the former "Girls" star, added, "of that texture, even if that means being in... some pain."
Demi then praises her daughters with ex-husband Bruce, Rumer Willis, Scout Willis and Tallulah Willis, for "an opportunity to start to change the generational pattern." She gushed over her kids for being "able to break the cycles..."
