AceShowbiz - TV personality Don Lemon called out several famous and powerful names whom he deemed not doing enough for Black Lives Matter movement. Among the celebrities he slammed were Ellen DeGeneres, Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, Sean "P. Diddy" Combs and Drake.
"What about Hollywood? Strangely quiet," the CNN host said during a conversation with Rev. William Barber. "I've seen them on Twitter, I see them, 'Oh, I'm loving what Don Lemon's doing'...But they gotta do more than that...Why aren't they helping these young people? These young people are out there standing on a platform at the edge of an abyss by themselves."
"Yes, I'm calling you out, and you can be mad at me all you want," he added. "And what they're doing, you're sitting there and watching TV and you're b***hing abut it...Get on television or do something and help these young people instead of sitting in your mansions and doing nothing. And have some moral courage and stop worrying about your reputation and your brand."
Following the call-out, Ellen made use her Twitter account to publicly share her stance amid the protests against racism and police . "I support the protestors who are exercising their rights and standing up against the horrible injustice that Blak people in America face everyday. #BlackLivesMatter," so "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" host tweeted on Sunday, May 31.
In a separate post, Ellen shared that she made "a donation to the George Floyd Memorial Fund, the @NAACP_LDF, @BlkLivesMatter, and the @ACLU in support of them, and I hope you will join me if you are able. #BlackLivesMatter."
In response to it, fans apparently thought that Ellen didn't need to be called out because she's always been doing much for the community. "SHE HAS ALWAYS HAD A PERMANENT SPOT AT THE COOKOUT," rapper Tory Lanez said.
Agreeing with Tory, a fan wrote, "Ok but Ellen always been giving back to the communities so she don't need social media to help justify where she stand with this situation." One other chimed in, "Ellen has always been in support of African Americans so I'm not surprised," with someone else commenting, "What we're not gonna do is accept any Ellen slander."
