AceShowbiz - Tory Lanez has initiated a $100 million lawsuit against the California Department of Corrections following a violent stabbing incident in prison that occurred in May 2025.
The rapper, legally known as Daystar Peterson, is serving a 10-year sentence related to his conviction in the shooting case involving Megan Thee Stallion. The lawsuit details a brutal attack on Tory Lanez at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, where he was stabbed 16 times by another inmate.
Tory Lanez sustained severe injuries including wounds to his back, torso, and head, as well as a collapsed lung, which required hospitalization after the assault.
The lawsuit targets not only the California Department of Corrections but also the prison warden and several correctional officers. It asserts that officials were negligent in placing Tory Lanez in a cell with inmate Santino Casio, who was serving a life sentence for second-degree murder.
According to the filing, “The choice to house Casio with Peterson was known or should have been a known danger.” The complaint further claims that Tory Lanez’s celebrity status made him particularly vulnerable to attack and criticizes guards for their delayed response during the stabbing.
Additionally, the lawsuit alleges that after Tory Lanez was transferred to the California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo County, he never recovered personal property, including songbooks containing lyrics for unreleased music. The filing also notes that officers failed to use flash grenades or other measures that could have stopped the attack sooner.
To date, Santino Casio has not been charged in connection with the stabbing incident. In November 2025, a three-judge panel denied Tory Lanez’s appeal and upheld his original sentence.
