The annual star-studded fundraiser, dubbed fashion's biggest night out, which takes place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, has been postponed due to the novel coronavirus.

AceShowbiz - Katy Perry would have stolen the show should this year's Met Gala did not get postponed because of the novel coronavirus pandemic. On the night of what should have been fashion's biggest night out, the "American Idol" judge gave a preview of what she would have worn, teasing a possible tribute to Madonna's iconic cone bra.

On Monday, May 4, the pregnant 35-year-old singer posted on Instagram a photo of Jean Paul Gaultier's design for her that bore similarity to the look he created for the "Material Girl" hitmaker's 1990 Blonde Ambition tour. Along with the photo, she simply wrote, "what would have been…#TheMetBall2020."

Perry shared the look one day after putting on toilet paper roll costume for the Sunday episode of "American Idol". Filming at home, the fiancee of Orlando Bloom joked with host Ryan Seacrest and fellow judges, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, "Just wanted to make sure that everybody has enough toilet paper at their houses."

The 2020 Met Gala was initially set to take place on May 4 in celebration of New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art's 150th anniversary. To have Meryl Streep, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Emma Stone serving as co-chairs, it picked up the theme of "About Time: Fashion and Duration". In mid-March, however, it was announced that the annual event got suspended due to the COVID-19 crisis.

Perry were not the only stars lamenting over the canceled high-profile event. Hollywood star Julia Roberts, who co-chaired the Gala in 2008, posted a photo of herself wearing a black and white gown in her bathroom. Along with it, she wrote, "Here's me...not going to the Met Ball tonight. #stayhome #yesyoustillhavetostayhome."

Laverne Cox, in the meantime, celebrated what should have been fashion's biggest night out by wearing vintage Thierry Mugler. "The reason that I'm wearing vintage Thierry Mugler is that the theme for this year's Met Gala is supposed to be 'About Time: Fashion and Duration,' " the 47-year-old told Daily Pop's Justin Sylvester.

"And so, apart of the idea of the exhibit, they were going to be looking at fashion through time and looking at how fashion can be cyclical," the "Orange Is the New Black" actress further explained. She additionally praised the designer's work on Kim Kardashian's 2019 Met Gala look, describing it "such an epic moment."
