Movie

The 'Shades of Blue' star plays a woman in her 40s who climbs her way up from working class to elite life after her friends create an impressive social history.

AceShowbiz - Jennifer Lopez reinvents her life in the first trailer for "Second Act". The 48-year-old actress/singer plays a 40-something retail worker who tries to challenge the stereotype that limits one's chance in scoring a job based on her education and age.

Lopez's Maya is struggling with frustrations from unfulfilled dreams. "Do you ever look at your life and wonder how you got there?" she asks in the trailer. "If you made different choices, would you be happier?"

When she gets passed over for a promotion at her dead-end job because of her education degree, she takes the challenge and proves to Madison Avenue that street smarts are as valuable as book smarts. With the help of her friends who create an impressive social history with a number of lies, she lands a dream job at a swanky Manhattan office.

As she's enjoying her sudden upgrade to a fancy life, Maya struggles to fit in with her professional persona while still not forgetting who she really is. "Don't confuse this Facebook thing with who you really are," her friend Joan, played by Leah Remini, reminds her.

Described as a comedy in the vein of "Working Girl" and "Maid in Manhattan", "Second Act" marks Lopez's return to romantic comedy since she starred in 2012's "What to Expect When You're Expecting".

The "World of Dance" judge said in June 2017 of what drew her to the project, "There are so many things I love about this project and script. People try to put women to sleep at a certain age. 'Second Act' is a story that empowers the every woman to do more, to be more, and not limit their dreams."

Also starring Vanessa Hudgens, Milo Ventimiglia, Freddie Stroma, Dan Bucatinsky and Dave Foley among others, the movie is directed by Peter Segal with the script written by Justin Zackham and Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas. It is due out in the U.S. on November 21.
