The upcoming Batman solo movie is rumored to take place in a different time period and star another actor.

AceShowbiz - Matt Reeves backtracks on his statement that suggested that the upcoming solo Batman movie will not be a part of DC Extended Universe. The director took it to Twitter to respond to the internet buzz, "Just to be clear: Of COURSE Batman will be part of the D.C. Universe. Batman will be BATMAN..."

"In my comments from a while back about not being part of the DCEU, I was talking about The Batman being a story specifically about Batman...," he added. "...not about the others in the Universe. That it wouldn't be filled with cameos servicing other stories -- that it would be a BATMAN story."

The helmer previously said in a podcast, "Well, I have a vision for a way to do something with that character that feels like it resonates with me personally, and a perspective that can grow out into other things. When they [Warner Bros.] approached me, what they said was 'look, it's a standalone, it's not part of the extended universe.' "

The Hollywood Reporter later claimed that "The Batman" will be led by a different actor, ditching Ben Affleck. "The new line, or possibly label, will allow for the making of movies that will stand apart and separate from those big-budget tentpoles. Matt Reeves' The Batman, for example, is intended to not be connected to the Justice League universe but to be set in a different time period and star another actor," the site reported.

Rumors about Ben's departure from the DCEU have been on the internet for quite a while. His brother Casey Affleck added fuel to the rumors when he let it slip in an interview that "he's not going to do [The Batman], I don't think. Sorry to say." He then tried to backtrack, "Is that breaking news? Because I was just kind of making that up, I don't know."

Ben's team quickly issued a statement, insisting the actor's return to the franchise, "He'll continue to be Batman as long as the studio will have him." Casey's rep also released a statement, telling the media not to take his comments too seriously, "He was having fun with the folks at the Red Sox game - where he threw out the first pitch in support of the Jimmy Fund - and not speaking from a place of firsthand knowledge."
