AceShowbiz - Warner Bros. has announced release date changes for two highly anticipated films, Matt Reeves' sequel to "The Batman" and an untitled feature directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and fronted by Tom Cruise.
Inarritu's untitled film starring Tom Cruise will now hit theaters on October 2, 2026, following the recent delay of "The Batman" sequel. The decision was made after the release date for DC Studios' "The Batman" was pushed back to October 1, 2027. "The Batman" sequel has faced several release date adjustments since its initial announcement in 2022. DC Studios co-chief James Gunn emphasized the film's delay is due to the ongoing script development process, which requires around two years for pre-production, shooting, and post-production for large-scale projects.
Meanwhile, Bong Joon Ho's "Mickey 17" and Ryan Coogler's "Sinners" have swapped release dates. "Mickey 17," which also stars Robert Pattinson, will now open on March 7, 2025, while "Sinners" will move to April 18, 2025.
Inarritu's untitled film marks the filmmaker's first English-language project since Oscar-winning "The Revenant," nearly a decade ago. It also represents the first film to emerge from Cruise's new deal with Warner Bros. The film follows the story of the most powerful man in the world on a desperate mission to save humanity from extinction.
Cruise will be joined by Sandra Huller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, and Riz Ahmed.
The shift in release dates for "Mickey 17" and "Sinners" was reportedly driven by delays in completing "Sinners" due to Coogler's preference for film shooting and the limited availability of labs for post-production work.
